well yesterday i pulled my heads off just for curiosity, but i dont know what i should do with them, i was thinking about porting them any one do that? how hard is it? the top of my pistons are pretty black, but i think that was caused by it running rich for a while, what do you guys think i should do?
I agree with everyone so far. Since the labor to reinstall is the same - it's time to upgrade! If you're on a budget, then get some iron GT40 heads. If you have some extra money then put on some nice aluminum heads. That's my $0.02.

How many Miles are on it? I agree on swapping the heads. If there is alot of miles on the car pull the motor and go through it. Shoot your almost half way there. As far as the cleaning you prob should have ran sea-foam befor you pulled the heads. you could clean the faces of the pistons with a scotch brite pad if you put the new heads on then run sea - foam after to clean the rest.
Im not sure if this is your daily driver? But your already there. Pull the motor and go throug it. check for scoring on the bearings. if the motor is low miles and there is cross hatching in the bores still id pick up a 331 forged stroker crank and rods and keep the pistons. If not drop a new rotating assembly in there and maybe some junk yard gt40-p's from an explorer till you can get a nice set of AFR's.
Good luck and tell us what direction you end up going.

Sooo you decided to pull your heads for "curiosity"??Damn you have way more ambition then I do.Anyway I wouldent bother porting the stock either.Get a set of aluminum heads.Hmm why not a cam also while youre there??thats if the $ situation allows it.
the car has 118k on it, did a compression test a while back and the compression was around 152-160 on all the cylinders, i should have used the seafoam, would that get ride of most of the carbon build up? in the future it might be my daily driver but itrs just a track car for now, dont have alot of money for new heads, i guess i could find some gt-40p's of some explorer and the intake off of it, would porting the gt-40ps help at all?
Home porting can be done but not recommended because you need consistency between the cylinders and doing it at home isn't accurate. Someone who's done it before should be the one to do it. Ported GT40P's would make a difference, and I'd go with them since you're on a budget. Just make sure your headers will fit and you might have to go with specific GT40P headers.
