Dexron III Works well I have used it with Lucas Additive, But I always perfer off the shelf Mobil 1
Or your clutch maybe worn or Transmission Synchros are worn, Otherwise that is the rec. Fluid

Reason: forgot to add
I use the Royal Purple MAX ATF which is for all transmissions
recommending Ford Mercon or GM Dexron III, which is the recommended tranmission fluid for T-5's.
It's makes the shifting really smooth.

I have heard of guys swapping out the ATF for regular gear oil. I never heard how it worked out long term though, and I never had the guts to try it myself. I stick with the MOBIL1!

im not doubting my synchos might be a bit worn..the clutch grabs low so i doubt thats a issue..also it could be that i havent gotten used to the feel of a mustang. i think im gonna try mobil or royal purple for the time being thou its 2.8 qts right ?

I would guess they would be lucky to make it a few hundred miles before burning up the needle bearings using regular gear oil!

I like to buy the Ford Brand myself, the Spec lists 2.8 Quarts, but I always get about 2.5 or 2.6 before it starts overflowing.

I agree i run the same royal purple in my g-force t-5 and love it....i tryed the gear oil in my stock T-5 and when it was cold shifting was hard....and shortly after i switched to gear oil my tranny went...i would stick with factory recommendations (using Dextron III) or switching to royal purple max atf.....but i WOULDN"T go to gear oil or anything that thick~!
I am running the b&m trick shift full synthetic with no issues but then again I have a fresh rebuilt trans 150 mi or so on it. Has anyone else used this any horror stories or what not. Its one of those all in ATF and says it can be used in a manual
Is your clutch cable ok. I just replaced mine and it shifts alot better now. Could not tell how bad the old cable was streched but the sheathing(black part around the old cable) was coming apart from where the cable goes into the tranny and it would only be a matter of time before the cable was destroyed because the cable was exposed to the weather. I used a factory replacement cable because the first one lasted for 139,000 miles.
