Question 1991 Mustang Fly Wheel

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW THE FLY WHEEL WORKS WITH INTERNAL,AND EXTERNAL WEIGHTS WHY DO I HAVE TO USE THESE WEIGHTS? CANT I JUST PUT THE FLY WHEEL RIGHT IN TO PLACE, START HER AND GO. THE REASON THAT I ASK. IS BECAUSE I HAVE A F1-RACING FLYWHEEL WITH 28.5 AND 50.OZ WEIGHTS.IM NOW STUCK ON WEATHER OR NOT I NEED THEM. AND IF I DO WHAT ONE SHOULD I USE, AND WHY! HOPE TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE SOON. THANX MUSTANG FAMILY

Im pretty sure your engine takes the 50 oz weight. If you neglect to install the proper weight you will have an imbalanced rotating assembly which would give you a wicked engine vibration.

The reason your flywheel has separate weights with it is so it can be used with different engine imbalances. In 1982, Ford began making all the 5.0L in the mustangs 50 oz. imbalance. Prior to that, they were 28 oz. imbalance. Your flywheel can also be used on 351W engines which were 28 oz. imbalance throughout their production to the best of my knowledge. The only time you would not use either of the weights would be if you have replaced your crankshaft with a internally balanced one. So if you have your stock crank, you will need to use the 50 oz. weight.

i just replaced my balancer and it takets a 50oz for it to work properly, unless you have a different crank, the 28.5oz are for the older 289's and 302's bc they had a different crank design

That started in '81, and it was for all 302s in all vehicles, not just Mustangs.

Hey, I was close. I was thinking the '80 & '81 mustangs had a 255 and not the 5.0L.

'80-'81 Mustangs and Capris were limited to the 4.2L/255 V8 and not the 5.0L/302 V8 but not all Ford vehicles were.
