Default retarding cam?

someone said by throwing in trick flow TW heads and 1.7 rockers on a stock cam, you'd have to retard the cam??? i dont see why? any truth to this?

I don't know how true this is. I know of many people running a stock cam with 1.72's with no problems. I ran these with edel RPM's w/no problems and a stock cam.

You shouldn't have to worry about clearance problems. Advancing a cam will lower the RPM band (have more low end power) & retarding a cam will give you more top end power.

Retarding the cam will move your powerband up in the rpm range. This can help you take advantage of the flow potential of the TWs. It's not really worth the effort though if you still have a stock intake since it's going to sign off by 4500 rpm anyway.

You will not have any problems installing the cam strait-up. Always install a camshaft strait-up, if you have to retard a cam to get it to fit...buy a new cam. The big no no of retarding a cam is that it delays the valve events. You run the possibility of loosing compression and VE.
