Question Gasoline Octain, Pinging, Timing Advance?

I Just have a few quetions...

What Octain should Ibe useing with the stock timing?
It seems when I use the "cheap stuff" I get lot of pinging
When I use the "middlestuff" I occasionaly get pinging.
Today I Filled me tank with "the good stuff" I still had a 1/8 of a tak of 89 in my car so it robably hasnt goten to the 91 yet. It sucks because I just want the pinging gone and I dont want to drown myself with gas bills. Is there anyway I can get rid of pinging 100% of the time without expensive gas?
Also, My friend who also has a stang says I should advance my timing to get a little bit more power. Should I do this? How much of a power Gain can get from advancing my timing?
Thanks!!

-JP

I have my car's timing set at 14, I have to use good gas (91) and octain boost to run WOT with out pinging. At 10-12 I can use lower grade (89) gas but it still has to be name brand, no arco or citgo. 76 is my fave if I plan on runing hard, exon is ok to.

The gas here in California suck's.

You can free up a few extra ponies by advancing your timing but you'll need to use premium gas.

Kyle, You should actually be able to run a little higher than 14-15 with Cam2. Just remember to get Unleaded 104 or less, I believe anything higher than 104 Octane is leaded gas and that will eat your O2 sensors and destroy any and all performance.

My guess with 100 in there you should be able to run a 16-18* advance safely, just have to play with it.

Installing a Cold Air kit will help get rid of the detonation.

Check the timing before anything else, 14-15 degrees almost always requires 92 or higher octane.

Get rid of carbon deposits in the intake and valves, just run some TB cleaner through the breather hose that connects from the passenger head to the TB hose. (Engine running).
