Question clutch install help

i know this question must have been asked before but i'd like some fresh insight on it. i just purchased a new clutch to install for the 5.0 and since it's my first time i'd like some help from you all. a couple of questions. first of all, what's the quickest easiest way to install this clutch and what do i have to do? how important is it to resurface the flywheel? and how much would you approximate a local shop would charge for the service? thanks in advance for the help.

my friend and i just put a king cobra in my 88 gt and here's what i learned.

1. you have to take off the trannyand bellhousing.

2. you might as well have the flywheel done since you have it very accessible. mine cost around $20.

3. if you're going to put in a hi-po clutch, you will want to change the quadrant. the stock plastic one isn't very strong.

4. while i was in there i went ahead and changed the pilot bearing and rear main seal. it's a perfect time and these are pretty inexpensive.

i hope this helps and i'm sure others with more experience than me can give you more advise.

p.s. it helps to have some swivle sockets to get to the top tranny bolts. i learned this the hard way.

yeah , exactly the pilot bearing and quadrant will help a lot with pressing the clutch. Check your cable for stiffness.

I got my flywheel resurfaced for $25 . Might as well do it all while you have the beast off.

I would buy the ciltons book or take it to the shop. Its not as easy as you think and you want it done right so your not sitting in the middle of the frwy broken down in rush hour. I paid $250 to have it installed.

When I got my clutch , it was $150 for installation. Took it in 5pm (when they closed) and picked it up the next day at noon. Might as well change your transmission fluid whiile its up 7 feet in the air.

But be sure not to skip the bearings and rear main seal.
