Question My Headlights turn off when fog lights are on???

I have an 88 Mustang GT and I have read in some books that this year had a flaw in the design as far as the headlights goes. My headlights are fine, until i turn on the fog lights then shortly after my headlights will turn off. Sometimes my dashboard lights will go out too. In curiosity i took off the switch to inspect the wires and to my astonish the wiring harness was brown and burnt!!!! But as far as I could see none of the wires were touching. I'm afraid that if i get just another wiring harness this wont fix my problem. If anyone has any knowledge on what I'm talkin about or how or something I might check please help me out.

this is a common problem.

on carpoint it is stated as

"An occasional problem on this vehicle is failure of the Head Lamp/Fog Lamp Switch. The cost to repair the Head Lamp/Fog Lamp Switch is estimated at $65.00 for parts and $35.00 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax. "

Hate to link, but this one has all the good stuff..

Ha ha...I did this almost 6 years ago. I hated the fact that I couldn't turn on my fogs without turning on my headlights. I also noticed that my switch was getting kinda hot after running them for a while! I used a couple relays to "buffer" the switch...then rewired so I could turn on the fog lights whenever I wanted!
