Default Are there front brake upgrades for the basic 5 lug conversion?

I am considering a 5 lug conversion, but it would only be the basic kit like the one from late model restoration. it has 5 lug axels, 5 lug disks in stock diameter and5 lug drums. I am doing a 5.0l swap on a 2.3l '89. I have the v8 spindles and disk setup. I have a set of 4 lug cobra wheels and one of 5 lug cobra wheels. I like to polish 5 lug set I have best but i need 5 lugs to use them.

Anyhow, to keep on budget I would use this type kit retaining the rear drums. If I wanted to upgrade the front disks to slotted or drilled in the future are there any available? would it even be worth it?

The best thing you can do up front is use SN95 Spindles, the cost would not be much more and you will have several choices of Calipers and Rotors along with a wide choice of Wheels!

with the sn95 spindles and brakes up front would I also need the tie rod ends for proper allignment? I'v been thinking about doing the sn95 swap, but most of the cars at the local yards have been striped of these parts. I gues I could just keep going to all of them weekly and pulling whatever parts are left on the cars untill I get all of them.
How much wider is the 8.8" rear end than the fox unit? I have the 7.5" and need to upgrade.

with SN95 spindles, you can use stock tie rod ends. they are adjustable. you will need a 0.330 inch spacer to go on the spindle side of the ball joint to take up the space that the new spindle leaves on the ball joint threads. I used stacked washers. The SN95 rear end is approx 1.5 inches wider overall. if you can find a rear end from a 94-95 then that would be the most straight forward conversion because of the configuration of the brake hard lines. With the GT SN95 front calipers and stock rear drums, you can run deep dish bullit wheels with only slight rubbing on the rear depending on how much your car is lowered. You will also not need to upgrade your master or prop valve because the SN95 caliper pistons are only slightly bigger than stock.

As lx said, you can use your Stock Tie Rods no problem.

I have been gathering all of the parts to do my SN95 upgrade over the last few months. I have everything except brake pads. I have a question regarding the ball joint. Do I use a ball joint from an SN95 car since it is an SN95 spindle of will the fox body ball joint work? I have not seen this covered in the material that I have used to research the upgrade. Maybe I missed it,but knowing this would help me out.

Thanks Drew

You can use the Stock Fox Ball Joint with a Spacer, it works just fine.

Check out this thread I started to get the 18 on my 86 with a 5 lug conversion. There are diagrams to what is needed as far as the spacing goes.
