I personally don't like my 3.73's, at about 70 my car sits at 2,200 rpm. I am also pushing 320hp to the wheels. It's fun, but the gas mileage sucks. Plus when you are at the usual slower posted speeds it's a pain. If i go 45 4th gear is too much 5th is not enough, same with 25 2nd is too much 3rd my car is dying. I can never get the good cruising note at the speed limit.

Thats funny. My car ia a "True" Daily Driver. 4.10's with a stick.
It hasnt been too much yet.

I drive my car everyday everywhere I go.

I have a 3:73 and a Tremec TKO 600A 5 speed w/ .82 5th gear overdrive. With a cheap speedo recalibration gear to fit, so speedo is accurate. With 225/50/16 I hit 4th gear at about 95 mph and still cherp the tires. So 5the gear doesn't pull as hard but will take me well over 135mph.
I know that i need to upgrade rear tires but unsure with either 26" or 28" drag tires. Also I fender tucked and cut and welded the inner sheet metal in the wheel well. I am planing on removing the rear quad shock. So from that what would be the largest fit tire? How much should i off set/ backspace the rim? Think i might be able to fit a 10" rim but not sure.

As long as we are putting it out there, I have a 1991 LX w/245 zr/16's on it and a 3:73 w/locker and a built C4 w/3300 stahl.
As of right now I still have not driven the car ( been building it for 'bout 4 yrs. )
How are these gears going to do in my case ?
The car had the gears and locker in it when purchased, is this going to be an issue I need to address before completion ?

I have a basically stock '87 GT with a five speed, I was thinking of 4:10's as I don't drive the car much and gas mileage is not an issue, I just want it to do well when I go to the track. Any idea how much quicker it will be with the 4:10's over stock gears???

I have a 89 LX Pretty much stock with a AOD. I switched from the 2.73 to 3.55 and LOVE IT. I'm glad I didn't go higher as it's my daily driver and I drive about 30 min each way from work. I still average around 18-19MPG after the swap. Before I was around 20-21. With your 5 speed I woudn't go any higher then 3.55's because you already have less gear in the tranny. On my AOD I'm hitting about 2500RPM cruising around 75. Then again... if you just racing around on weekends... then get all the gear you can!

I just put a new 3:73 Ford Racing rear in my 92 LX 5.0 with a stock AOD. I must say it's not bad on the highway revs, around the same as my buddy's 88 GT which came with 3:27's from the factory. Maybe 100-200 rpm difference between the two cars at 70 mph.

i have 3.73 gears in mine, its a 5-speed, 3.31 1st gear (non world class) first gear in mine is useless... it revs up jus as fast in 1st as it would if it were in neutral. im lookin to get a 2.95 t-5 or just go tremec. this might be something to consider when you lookin for gears. in my case, a 3.55 would've been better. but the t-5 like i have are not as strong as the 2.95

Default axle removal 1990 mustang 5.0

Does anyone know how to remove the spring locker that is located around the pinion rod. Removed the pinion bolt but it will not slide out so that i can push the axles in to remove c clips.
