I'd want a 3.55 because of the top end. I can always put a motor in a car to pull the gears. I just like the thought that with the right engine, I can go 170 mph +.

you got to think more realistic 130mph+ on the street

should be out of the question a true racer should stick to a track

besides i thought this was an everyday driver

well you forgot the 3:27 gear which is nice for turbos and S/C cars..I run 3:55 and are real happy with them..had 4:10's hell started in 2 nd most of the time...there isn't much difference in the '55 * '73's the 3:73 would be perfect with a 2;95 first gear as in the cobra(93) that 3.35 first is alot of gears..there is other way to help your hole shot and save wt, gas and all...just plan it out don't forget the new 3:90 gear

I got me 3.73s now and I'm very happy. I have this stupid grin on my face the entire time I'm driving.

Thumbs up

4.10's in my stick shifted 13.0 running 302. Don't fear the gear bro! I'm actually considering 4.56 or 4.88 Just to give you a "for instance" right now with 4.56 I run 65 MPH at 2000 with .68 overdrive. If I switched to a 4.56 my RPM at 65 MPH would climb to a whopping 2200!!!

I'm running 3:27 right now, you definitely pull the gears out longer.... but my old Stang had 3:73's... and I honestly liked them better.... 3:73's just jump better to me

So, I have the same question about which gears to choose... I have to have my rear dif rebuilt cuz the bearings are soo annoying and hum away... However, I currently have 3.73's installed but I want to install either 3.55's or I was also looking into 3.27's... I do a TON of highway driving back and forth between college and home. It is a 5 speed and getting decent gas mileage is a concern.. (I know what am I thinking.. I bought a 5.0) but I am currently getting around 18-20 mpg which is not bad. I also have flows installed which are quite loud on the highway cuz of the gearing. 2500 rpms at 75-80 mph. This car is obvoiusly my daily driver. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated

that would be caused by a worn bearing , or a bad install of the gears .

Now you throw in 3.73 to get a kick in the pants bottom end and you think it will run 160. NO you loose top end to gain bottom end. And saying the speedos off... Why don't you just let the police officer tell you what your speed was when hes slamming your head on the hood of his crown vic and cuffing you. You can flat foot your car with a mainly stock motor remember and never hit red line in 5th. Whats wrong with that you say. Try 5th gear is OVER DRIVE. Like a .65 gear in the tranny. The car doesn't have the guts to pull you to red line in 5th OVER DRIVE. Deffinatly 4th cus 4th is 1 to 1. That mean everything is turning at the same time almost. I have 3.55s. A stock motor and the basics and I can flat foot my car in 5th get 3,800 3,900 and shes all done. Has nothing else to get her to move. Thats right around 135 give or take 5 to 10 mph. If you talking built motors thats a whole different ball game.
On my dead stock motor I got 4200 in 5th gear with only my stock 3.27's. Just exhaust and pulleys at the time. Never tried with the SC on yet...

01 Cobra has 3.27 gears stock, only the 03-04 Cobra have 3.55 and so do the Mach I's.
