Default How strong is an AOD out of a 1989 LTD Station Wagon with the tow package and a 5.8?

Well i got my whole descriptive question in my title. basically i wanted to know if this tranny has any more clutches in it. i know some c6 came with more than others and that c5 came with more than c4. what would be the weak link in this tranny? i have a 3000rpm stall converter for it and a b&m shift kit. i was thinking of rebuilding it with hughes performance kit? any opinions on that kit? in general pros and cons to this tranny. i am going to run it behind a turbo 302 i am building looking to make a 10.xx run with it. so it need to be strong. thanks for any input. oh this is a daily driver so im not going to but in a c4 c6 or a gay a$$ GM anything!

That AOD, stock, isn't much different than any other AOD out there. But it can be made plenty strong, and I've heard that Hughes kit is a really good one. Just get the strongest clutches and steels you can, an A overdrive servo, and high performance bands. If you really want to run a 10.something in the quarter, you might should upgrade the valvebody, maybe even get a full manual version. I have one and now I only wonder why it took so long to change it.

Ask me why I ran "only" a 13.54.

do you like running the full manual valve body on the street? how often do you drive the car? my car will be a daily driver. but i was thinking that anyway because i was thinking a transbrake would make 10.xx alot easier to reach. what shifter are you using? do you like it? thanks for all the help.
