Hey, I have been wanting to put a catless X or H pipe on my car since the day I got it but since my car is under my dads name he wont let me do it because "its against the law" I have heard that if u have 100k or more miles on your car you can do whatever you want(I dont think that is true) But my dad says the fine is about 10k$ for not having catylic converters. So he doesnt want to get stuck wit any fines. Sucks for me! Is there anything I can do to convince him? What are the fines/ Laws for running a catless h or x pipe here in California? (IF I EVEN GET CAUGHT!?!)
THanks

Oh and one more thing, How long do o2 sensores last?

Why do you want a catless H-pipe so bad? If your going to drive it on streets just get a H-pipe with converters, you don't have to worry about emissions and its against the law for a reason...
dkbmxr, the law that you are thinking of allows you to remove a catalitic converter if it is not functioning and that you need 50% of what came on the car....as for the fine, it is over a grand, and you will be listed as a gross polluter and will have to first go to a refferie, then only get smogged at a test only center......

Maybe you havnt heard the sound difference beetween a car with cats and without? I am sure others can agree with me on this one.

What are cops going to do? LOok under my car and see if i have cats? Is that how people get caught? I think they should manufacure catless pipes with what appears to be a cat on it but it is hollowed out :-D thatd be great

You can get highflow cats. While the sound of my car did get quieter, the HP loss isn't that much less with them on for a street car. Plus, when you go to sell the car, you won't have the problem of trying to get them put back on. Most muffler shops won't even touch your car for anything if you are not legal. You are just asking for tons of headaches running without cats in CA.....take my word.

Im running cat back straights right now so my car is pretty loud. How would a X pipe WITH cats change the sound? Will it be louder then the stock H pipe or will it be mellower than the stock 4 cats?

Got BBK shorties and BBK High flow cats here.... add that to the flowmaster 2 chambers that i had already and i am a happy camper AND can pass california emmisions...
If i was you I would just get the X pipe (gives you more power than the H pipe) w/ cats and take it to a muffler shop or some one who is good w/ a welder. And get them to gut the cats and then install it on your car. Only way I know they check here is looking to see if you have any. Or they can bring the car in for an emission test.
