Default A couple of 5.0 head questions

Ok I have the opportunity to pick up a set of ported and polished stock e7 mustang heads. They have 1.7 crane cams roller rockers and crane cams springs etc. etc. Would this be worth me spending 400 bucks or will the power gain be so minimal that my money would be better spent elsewhere? Also what kind of installation are we talking here. Am I, with average mechanical knowledge, going to be able to swap these into the basically stock car or is a job for the professionals? Thanks for any advise everyone!

I'k say take the offer. You can probably get up to 30 hp off this mod on a stock motor. If e7's are aluminum heads you will need new head bolts (torque to yield). You will need new head gaskets. New intake gaskets. Also you will need exhaust manifold gaskets if you are running headers. As far as doing it yourself I'd suggest that you have a friend that knows cars walk you through this. Also if this is your first time get the Ford service manual. Not chiltons or haynes they don't tell you crap! Beleve me it is worth spending twice as much for the Ford manual especially if it's your first time with a head swap. You can get these from your local ford shop for around $50.

I just thought of something. You won't need new head bolts. I'd try and get the guy down to $300 if it was me.

The actual head swap is easy. You don't need a manual. Just label the parts as you take them off so you know where they go when you are ready to re-assemble. As far as the heads for $400, plan on another $100-$150 in new bolts and gaskets. So now you are looking at close to $600. Where these heads hand polished by someone? If they weren't professionally done you may have way different flows for each cylinder which would suck. My opinion is to save for a set of CNC ported heads so you have piece of mind and guaranteed horsepower.
