My fuel gage usually is stuck waaaaaay above full. Then it just ends up reading what it wants too. So put a new sending unit in today and a new pump. But the damn gage still does it. Any one have a thought on this ? Thanks
Youve most likely got a loose/corroded ground wire at the gauge or sending unit or youve got a bad anti slosh module. The ASM is attached to the back of the instrument cluster with a torx bolt. The 90-93 module is shown in the picture below. The 87-89 module doesnt look exactly like the 90-93 module, but looks similar, mounts in the same location and does the same job.
The cheapest thing to do is try replacing the capacitor on the module,if youre working on a 90-93 module. The capacitor fixes the problem 9 out of 10 times. The module is expensive($90-$150)but the capacitor is only $1.39 at an electronic supply store. If you decide to try this repair, make sure you pay attention to polarity when you remove the old capacitor & install the new one. There is a + & - side on the capacitor,so install it correctly. The large blue object,on the module shown below,is the capacitor you need to replace.
Well I did go to the junk yard and I found 3 of those slosh modules. And in installed one. So far it looks like it may be working. We will see.
