i have a 1991 mustang gt 5.0 with
MSD 6AL-2 Ignition Box Module [6421] [2-step]
MSD 5.0L Pro Billet Distributor [8456]
MSD Blaster HVC,coil [8252]
already installed , i just bought a tach adapter 8920
and a Autometer Phantom 5" tachometer 5899
i have read all i could , now i would like some real world know how on wiring and setup from you guy if you would please......
White Wire- 12V Dash Lighting. Run this one to the headlight switch. You can use a test light or multimeter to find the correct wire to tap into.
Red Wire- 12V Key Power. I run this one to the ignition switch. Again you can use a test light or multimeter to find 12V key power and tie into it. I don't remember which one it is off the top of my head.
Black Wire- Ground. Run it to a good known ground. Should be able to find one under the dash or on the steering column bracket.
Green Wire- Tach Signal. Tach signal will come from your ignition box and should have a place on it for you to connect or run the wire to.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Unless you are using the magnetic pickup you shouldn't need the adapter. You should be able to run the tach signal wire from the tach to a grey wire on the MSD box that's for the tach
The tach adapter isnt needed when running an Autometer tach.I believe its mainly needed when youre running the stock tach in combination with a Duraspark ignition system. It shouldn't be needed with the tfi system & Autometer tach youve got.
You might have seen this already, but the following link has alot of detailed info regarding the MSD install.
