Default 1995 Mustang GT Stock Hood Modification For Heat Extraction

Was curious if opening the the faux hood vents would provide any heat extraction or benefit me by allowing some of the engine compartment heat a way to vent .

What about when it rains? Your engine and all the wiring will get soaked. Your asking for more problems if you screw with the hood like that.

thought about that. haven't figured it out though. i don't drive my car in the rain but you never know. could get caught in a rain storm or something with no place to get shelter and you're right; that would suck. any ideas ?

If you think you really need to let some of the heat out buy a cowl induction hood. Maybe one of these USA AND* CANADA

i kinda wanted to keep the stock hood. plus, i'm sure matching the paint of such a large area to the panels that adjoin the hood would be just about impossible. might would consider a real '95 cobra r hood if it matched sans painting

funny enough just did it an hour ago, on my 95 gt. i took off the plastic piece bolted the top of the firewall , after taking off my strut tower brace (which kenne bell and ford say is worthless) and left on the screen thing that the windshield sprayers are hooked to,it is currently raining and i checked on it, the passenger side runs into an area where there is no wires but drivers side doesn't, i may custom channel it to behind firewall where it was going anyhow or i may not, people run cowl hoods all the time where water could run onto engine,i'll keep you updated, i'm cheap and don't like cowl hood mostly because of being in the line of sight so good luck bro

also there was dirt behind there and plenty of room for damn mouse nests, thankfully i had none but anyhow. the car doesn't have the best drainage there anyway if you ask me

cool. was actually thinking about the little " nostril " looking things on either side of the hood but right on. hadn't thought about the cowl area.

yeah,i wondered about the nostrils and there is a small hole on the inside of the hood to let out heat but seems like not enough i still have that (cardboard like heat barrier thing) so i don't know if there are any other passages running to those nostrils.i forgot to see if i could remove that plastic screen under the outer layer cowl piece also. and thankfully i didn't have any rust under there. but seems like it could be a breeding ground with the crappy way the factory did with where the rain water goes

I have a saleen S351 hood, and water is not a problem. Most of the water goes on top of the radiator support, with the small "nostril" vents inducting very little water themselves. Try taking the fog lamps out, that will cool it off alot too, by scooping air into the engine. I dropped my air charge temp 10 degrees by getting rid of those damn fog lamps that dont do dick.
