Default 1995 Mustang GTS Intake Manifold

Hey all,

I installed a Cobra upper and lower intake manifold and a 65mm FR throttle body a bit ago.

It appears that I have a lower intake vacuum leak. I'm about to buy new gaskets and try to seal up this leak.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I can prevent creating another vacuum leak this time around? This was my first time installing a new manifold and apparently I didn't seal it up right.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to seal everything up right?
What gaskets do I need to get? (EGR, throttle body, and the intake gaskets?) I'm assuming that you can't reuse the gaskets already installed on the car.

I need some suggestions on where/what gaskets to get and what sealant to use. Last time I used a high temperature sealant, but I don't think I applied enough. Any helpful tips/tricks to make sure this doesn't happen again?

Brief specs:
1995 Mustang GTS (about 112,000 on engine)
5.0 302 / 5spd
Flowmaster cat back exhaust
BBK CAI
FR 65mm Throttle Body
Cobra Upper/Lower Intake Manifold

Also, is there anything else I should do while sealing this leak up? Last time, I replaced the O rings around the fuel injectors.. but is there anything else I should do while I'm at it?

Thanks a lot! If you need any more information I'll try to provide it!

I'll tell ya how to get it sealed up right the first time....first u need to buy the fel-pro gaskets w/ the rubber front and back inserts....do not buy the cork kit...then get some of that 3m spray adhesive....spray it on the intake manifold...then set your gaskets on there let in dry...then your ready to set your intake on there...also you need to follow the tightening sequence ford recommends...otherwise your probally gonna have a leak if you don't follow it.

If you use the rubber front and rear seals, make sure they don't push out. I've always used a thick line of silicone at the front and rear, let it sit about 10-15 minutes to allow it to "skin over", this will help it seal better, and then use some quality bolts, not the stock bolts because they tend to stretch. You'll see the torque specs are around 17-22 ft lbs, I'd suggest going up to 35-40 ft lbs.

Hi all,

I know this is an old thread, but I figured I would revive it instead of making a new thread.

I finally have the time, space, and tools to correct this leak.

So you all would use the rubber gaskets over the cork ones? Is this personal preference, or do they just seal better?

Also, what sealant would be the best? Last time I used some sort of high temperature sealant. I remember when I installed the gaskets I didn't really wait.... I just put sealed/put the gaskets down then dropped the manifolds on. Should I always wait for the sealant and gaskets to set up?

Also, are there any other things regarding maintenance that I should do while I'm at it? Last time I replaced the O-Rings on my fuel injectors... and cleaned up everything... but that's about it.

Thanks a lot! I know everyone has their own opinion, but I just want a good set of guidelines to use to make sure this does not happen again.

I got the fel-pro gasket kit for a '94 Cobra intake and it came with the rubber seals. I haven't installed the intake yet, so I don't have any suggestions for you YET...
I will be installing my intake withing the next couple of weeks so hopefully all goes well and I'll have some suggestions for you!

I don't know of anyone who actually uses the end seals due to their tendency to always leak. It'd be my suggestion to use the silicone gasket maker, in either black or copper. It is also highly recommended to put the bead down and let it sit for 15 minutes to let it 'skin over'. This will help it seal better once you put the intake on.

Fel-Pro MS93334... This is the kit with the Blue end seals... Personal preference, but I always use this one and always been leak free...

Just remember to apply Hi temp RTV at the very corners where the Blue pcs end at the heads..those corners tend to leak...and as mentioned use the tighening sequence. I use Allen stud at each corner to get things lined up nice when lowering it down..
