Default Oil pressure gage reading

I have a 94 302 GT with 92,000 miles that I bought new. It has always showed a oil pressure reading in the m or a of normal on the gage. Now it reads at the highest level and even pegs all the way to the right especially when the air is on. When you turn the air off it will drop back a little but still around the right hash mark before it pegs the H. The car runs great and is not overheating. Any ideas about what is causing this or is this just another gage problem?

I had to replace the temperature gage last fall with an Autometer mechanical gage due to the original factory gage reading Hot when the engine was operating at the normal engine temp using a 192 degree thermostat.

Maybe there is some sort of a short in the wiring. There could also be something wrong with the individual gauges or the whole cluster board. I would verify actual oil pressure with a known good gauge and start from there. The factory gauges are not awesome by any means.

My 94 gt does the same thing it reads almost at the highest line but once in a great while it will read low i think its the sending unit. I almost was wondering the same question as you.

It may be an instrument panel voltage regulator on the instrument bezel in the dash too, especially if more than 1 gauge is giving you problems.
