1995 Mustang, automatic trans won't shift into drive
Ok...so I need some help, and don't know where to start. I have a 1995 mustang gt that has an auto transmission. Well yesterday it decided that it wasn't going to shift into drive. Dad checked the trans fluid, and there wasn't alot in there(yes we guess theres a trans leak SOMEWHERE), so we put some more in there, plus I could rev it a little and it would jerk into gear, so I could drive it and get the fluid in there.....well today, tried to go somewhere and the trans decided it wasn't going to go into drive no matter what I did....it goes into reverse just fine.....but refuses to go into drive...I also tried to drop it into 2nd, with no luck....Could someone PLEASE help me with this problem before I decide its just not worth it anymore and start piecing the thing out....Thanks!

Sorry to tell u this but mine did the same thing.drive went out had to have rebuilt.
Me too but it cost me 1600 for a rebuild with a shift kit.runs alot stronger now.
Yeah well, I'm not sure this car is even worth getting it fixed anymore...and I sure as heck don't have that money laying around...so guess its just time for it to go....possible in little pieces....

Well i'm sorry to tell u that.
yeah i know took me a couple of months to save up.
Anyone have maybe any other ideas....I've been reading around and some people have had the same problem and they've needed to tighten bands? Does that sound like a possibility to anyone??
You ever change the fluid and filter?
I would start there. How is the fluid look? Is it brown or red?
Normally if the fluid is low the trans will not work.
I bought a used aode with new converter for $400. Keep that in mind. I have one now as a back up. Also the trans worked so got lucky there. Look around. Valve body might need to be cleaned.
One of your power valves might be stuck for drive? It is in the valve body. Just thinking out loud!!

Yeah, we've changed the fluid and filter....it was red on the little stick......so I think thats good.......well that looks like what were gonna end up doing is buying a used trans.........Cause I just don't have it to rebuild or buy new...and I need the car back like NOW! so were hunting around...luckily we know quite a few people in the junk yard business....they have a few mustangs on thier lot right now....The trick is if they work or not....
Just a bit of information if you're looking for a junkyard trans. The 3.8L AOD-E Also bolts up to the 5.0 as long as you get one from a 94-95(I believe the starter location is different on the 96-98's) The 3.8L AOD-E wont be as strong as the 5.0 unit but it will get you around and they can be had DIRT cheap if you find the right place. A friend of mine picked up a 94 3.8L AOD-E for $75 w/ Converter at the local pick-n-pull.

I would gladly do that, but I'm actually selling the car as soon as we get this problem fixed and I want it to be the way it is now.....I think we can still get a used one thats the same for pretty cheap....Like i said...we know a few people personally that have junk yards....That'll help TREMENDOUSLY!! and be good on my daddys wallet....
OK...so I'm gonna bump this back up...I have another question...Would my Torque Convertor cause my trans not to go into drive?? Me and the BF we're having the conversation last night, and I told him what was going on, and he made mention of that....I don't know I'm just trying to run through EVERYTHING.
Thanks!
Ok...So I have ONE more question...Is there ANY OTHER trans that will drop into my car without the least modification possible....I'm trying to expand my search....the original trans for my car is damn near IMPOSSIBLE to come by where I live.....
Your problem could be something as simple as a bad Manual Lever Position Sensor. Might wanna check that out before you put a boatload of cash into a replacement tranny.

Ok...so how would I go about finding that out...Do I need to hook it up to a computer??
