Ok... this is my first post on one of the forums, so please bear with me and forgive me if this post is in the wrong place. I have just recently begun taking my car to the strip and I am wondering what kind of times to expect from these automatic GT Mustangs? My best run to date on spray has been a 15.554 @ 89 mph, my 60ft time was 2.221 with a 0.010 r/t. It runs consistently 16.1s without spray. To me, this just seems awefully slow... or have I set my expectations a bit high? All runs were made on Nitto 555 Street tires, I know I have a bit of a problem with wheelspin on launch, especially with the spray... is that hurting my e/t that much? Any help would be appreciated!!
I am also new to this stuff, and have already put pics in the wrong place so hope all will bear with me!! As for your quarter mile times- spinning off the line will definitely hurt your E/T but usually doesn't effect your mph as much. Both seem a little on the slow side to me. One place to start would be to get your launches solid with no spin, sounds like that might mean a set of slicks. Then you will know exactly what kind of power you are making. What is your weight with you in the car and how much horsepower without spray is the motor supposed to make?
Those times do seem slow, I would think based on what you listed that you have and using the NOS you should run in the low 14s to high 13s. That's just my $.02
Wheel spin can definately hurt an ET. I think stock those cars should run around a mid to high 15.
Thanks for the quick replies guys! I thought those times seemed a bit slow. What would be the best way to avoid wheelspin in the mean time til I can afford some slicks? I have been spraying it right off the line, I think I should definately stop that. I am not using water for my burnouts, I heard that would hurt my traction with street tires. How much of a burnout should I be doing anyway? Right now I only spin em til I start seeing the first hints of white smoke, then quit. Is that enough? Thanks!
You're right about not doing a water burnout with street tires. The tread design doesn't always allow for the water to be released or burnt off and can mess up your launch. You can continue to change things up and better your times like not using the NOS on the launch and maybe playing with the throttle off the line but my thoughts are until you get some better tires for drag racing you wont see your best times.
I have a 96 cobra with a Kenne Bell. I had some cheap Sumitomo tires and couldn't get any traction off the line until I went with MTs DRs.

Yes, try to go around the water if possible, then do your burn out. Just heat your tires up until you feel is good.

That is a little slow for having nitrous. I ran a 15.6 with street tires, full length headers, and K&N. And that was with barely any traction (35* that night). You definitely need to get some drag radials, slicks are probably too much for your car right now. I've been recomended Mickey Thompson radials...
Excellent reaction time though! Try taking off without the bottle then hit it when you get to about 30ft. or so. Just try it different ways and see what works best.
Hey Deavos2plus2, nice to see another Okie in the Forums!

no one asked how big of a shot you were running....maybe thats the problem...or maybe the nitrous is way off on tunning... i heard you should get a dyno after you install nitrous for best results... and yes the 94 mustang gt w/ a aode transmission should run mid 15s stock and low 14s with the shot...
so maybe look into tunning issues...
and i would def. not use the spray right off the line....
I think you have a tuning issue. have you can a scanner on it to see if you have any problems? My guess would be you have something wrong with your car you need to fix before you keep using spray. you dont want to blow something. To slow for what you have. something is wrong.

Thanks! I will definately look into the tuning.... I have a buddy with a scanner I think will work so I can check to see if it is showing any codes. It will be after the first of the year til I can get back to the track... so it looks like I will have plenty to keep me busy until then!

Just make sure it's an OBD-1 scanner. The connecter is under the hood on the passenger side.
Good Luck!
