Hey all!! Long time lurker, first time poster. I would like to get some guidance on helping me rebuild/upgrade my '95 Cobra. Bought the car used in '01 with 45K miles. Currently paid off (thank GOD! HA HA) and now has about 130K miles on it. I've done some minor upgrades since buying it (Flowmaster 2 chamber, BBK O/R H pipe, BBK U/D pullies, K&N system, Eibach Lowering Springs, 24# injectors). The car still has some juice to her, but I can definately tell she's starting to be a tad sluggish. I would like to pick some of your brains since I don't really have much knowledge of cars, technical things, (porting heads, etc..) I have a buddy that knows a guy that said he would rebuild my engine, but I don't even know what all that intails or what I should tell him to do. So I decided to start browsing the net looking for different mod upgrades. I have around $2-3K to spend for this project. Not really looking into the whole Nitrous/Supercharger route, as this is a DD in the nice weather months (Ohio). Don't really have any specific #'s I'd like to reach, but just want a nice looking/fast car that will get up and go when I want it to. I'll list some of the things I was thinking about doing, and maybe some of you that are "in the know" can guide me in the right direction. I'll list the parts I read about on here, and maybe you can give me some good products to look in to if you think that is the route I should go with. Thanks so much for all of your help!!! Much appreciated!!!

How many miles are on your engine now?
I see that you put 24# injectors in your list of things you have changed (modded). I hope you didn't spend money on putting in new 24#ers because the cobra's already come with the 24's.
Anyways, for $3000 you can get a really good top end kit for your car. Trick Flow, Holley, Edelbrock are 3 common but good kits.
Gears are also a good first mod to do. The "norm" for gear change is- Auto= 4.11's 5speed= 3.73's.
There is also a thread at the top of the '94-'95 Tech section for common mods. Take a look at that and get a guideline of what you want to do.

The car has around 130K on it currently. Regarding the injectors, my buddy had bought new ones for his stang, but sold it before he could put them in. Got the new injectors for $50. Figured I couldn't pass up that deal.
afr is AIRFLOW RESEARCH. some of the best heads on the market. 165s are the street/strip head.very good stuff! i think there website is www.airflowresearch.com
looks like were both in the market for a rebuild and upgrade, id say to get some new heads or get your stock ones ported along with your intake and add a new cam(steeda 19 is the best for the computer in our cars. they tend to hate new mods lol) and soem gears will make it feel like a whole new car. the gears dont add hp but its the most noticeable upgrade. and with the rebuild and upgrades id suggest a tune and chip. if you have more questions send me a message
At 130K miles, a rebuild could be questionable depending on how it's been driven and maintaned...
A rebuild can cost anywhere around $500-$1000 (estimating) all depending on the condition of the motor.
As for mods... $3000 could do many things. But gears would be a good first thing to get. Do you have an auto or 5 speed?
If you buy the gears and the rear end rebuild kit and have a shop install it, it would probably cost you about $1000 after it's all said and done.
That leaves you with $2000. You already have the Cobra intake which is good. So for $2000, you might be able to get away with Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads, a decent cam, and MAYBE a set of BBK shorty headers.
I say Twisted Wedge because there almost as good as the AFR's but they're also about $200-300 cheaper...

It is a 5-speed and is very well maintained. Any links to the gears/rear end rebuild kit?
they only made the cobra 5 speed, well you said you noticed she was getting a bit sluggish? ive noticed the same thing out of my car thats why im thinking rebuild adn while they have the enigine apart its cheaper to have the mods put on now then to have them take it apart again. im short on money and im starting school in feb so as for mods with rebuild im getting a new cam and maybe heads but if i cant afford it im have my stock heads and intake ported and im getting a tune and custom chip
American Muscle should have everything you need for the gears and rear end rebuild...
American Muscle is a great company. They are also a sponsor on this website. Go into their section of our site, and get a hold of AMNick (he won't be back until next monday...) and see if they can get you any kind of discount! Tell him 302Feen sent you.

if your going to do the whole topend the kit is cheaper but those are still a bit expensive. and if you need a rebuild i dont think you will be able to afford a topend kit and rebuild.
Would it be cheaper to go with a top end kit or buy the pieces seperately?
It all depends on if you want the gears or not. If you don't get the gears you'll have $3000 to spend on the H/C/I (heads/cam/intake). I would say, keep your cobra intake (free), a set of Twisted Wedge heads (about $1200-$1300), and either a Steeda #19 cam or one from COMP CAMS (about $300ish), and if you have enough left over a set of shorty or equal length headers from BBK (about $250).
So a rough estimate... $1900 for heads, cam and headers...
