Question Any suggestions on a shift kit? AND some headers?

Part 1
Since I drive an auto, I'm thinking about getting one.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what one is better?

How do the shifts feel compared to stock and is it worth it?

PART 2

Now my second question.
I'm looking into getting headers. I was thinking about thinking getting Mac 1 1/2 headers. They seem the best when tested at the tech article and I was thinking about getting em'.

Does anybody have these and if so how do you like them?

And for people who have other headers how are they?

And if it matters I'll be getting a Bassani Off Road X Pipe verrry soon. Also probably the whole system without cats from Bassani.

So that about sums it up.
And any help is greatly appreciated........

So knock some facts into me!!!!!!

I liked the TRansgo kit, you can install it in 3 settings, stock, firm and race. I had it in firm setting. Nice responsive shifts and not to harsh.
The kit is also pressure sensitive, if the valvebody is over pressurised it will releive some of the pressure out, good for valvebody life and reduced heat.
Install a tranny cooler, i had a B&M unit, easy to install.

MAC headers are ok, i have a set, but BBKs have better quality. I had a small fitting problem with the MACs, one of the pipes was missaligned by .5".

Offroad Xs sound awesome

I have a 5 speed so I don't know much about auto's. I have installed a few sets of headers and by far the Ford ceramic shorties are the best. I've had mine since March and they still look brand new even driving through snow. They also have a lifetime warranty. The chrome BBK's and MAC headers won't look so hot after awhile. The set of MAC headers I installed were the crappiest quality automotive piece I've ever seen. I couldn't believe anyone could get away manufacturing something like that. After several calls to MAC, they just told me how to modify them to make them fit, they wouldn't even take them back! So be prepared for that.

Wow zenboy, it looks like you got screwed over. I'm sorry to hear that man. I looked into the Ford headers and they do look great.

Does anybody know if they fit a Bassani Off Road X-Pipe?

Any more information from other people would be great
So send em' coming!

ok heres what u want. i've been through this before so i know whats up.

you want a good converter in that tranny, thats key. a PI stall (Www.converter.com) is the way to go.

second you want a good valvebody, a PA www.performanceautomatic.com or lentech valvebody is whats gonna get you awesome shifts ALL The time. if you want to go cheap tho trans-go is the best shift kit out there.

headers, do it right the first time. get some MAC long tubes for you car, they make a set just for the AODE. there only like 250 bucks new. i'd recomend painting them with some 1500 degree paint or wrapping them to keep them from getting corroded. or have them coated by someone. regardless you want longtbues. best flowing, and the drone is alot less than shortys. wish i went longtubes the first time myself. a tad harder to install but remmeber you get what you work/pay for.

What should I buy first? Or does it matter. It seems like a smart decision too. Could I have a converter and a valvebody AND a transgo kit? Or will that be TOO tight of a shift? Or does that even exist ?

Also one more thing. When should I get a MSD ignition? After a lot of mods or is it good to have no matter what?

Thank you.

I went the shift kit first route, then got a converter. You might want to consider a shift kit from baumann engineering, I have heard great things about there work on AODEs. I have a Transgo kit and it is Ok. It doesnt give me the grab through gears 2-3 and 3-4 that I would like. I believe Precision Industries makes the best converter (or at least they did 3 years ago). I have a 2800 stall Stallion and am fairly happy with it although it was rather pricey at about $675. Unfortunatly, with the addition of the converter my shifts softened dramatically. If I had to do everything over again I probably would have spent the extra money and went with a complete aftermarket tranny from Lentech or Level 10. Then again, I prolly would just do a T-5 swap...
