Default 95 GT Rear end swap

Ok I probably going to do the same thing a dear friend of mine did, but i was wanting your opinions...

Im looking for a used 8.8 rearend with 3.55-3.73 gears to put into my stang, i currently have an 8.8 with 2.73 gears in it...

my friend took his 00 v6 and bought a used rear end for sale on craigslist for 400 bucks with 3.73s and he put it in his car.

now if im not mistaking would i be more than likely to find a rear end from a 96-04?

will it bolt right up, i mean i know if its a 94-95 rear end it will work because the years match, but i believe from 94-04 the rear ends are universal.

thanks,

i dont exactly know how that works but i assume since its 96 to 04 it should work unless your year had some sort of different pinion flange like the 03-04 cobras. i heard that a 2000 8.8 rear end would fit in a 2007 but idk if theres any truth to that

It would be less expensive if you bought a set of gears and installed them in the 8.8 you already have.

nah my friend who would do the swap said the 05+ are not interchangeable idk why, he worked for ford and got all his training from NTI and Ford.

not necessarily, you can find somone on craigslist who is selling a rearend for $400 with 3.73s like my friend did... or you could go spend $150 on the gears and end up paying Ford $1,000 to install them? i don't see how this is cheaper.

Dont go to ford and have it done. I never go to a dealer. Have a good mechanic do it. $200 the most. i had several quotes. They do same work as dealers do!

thats a great idea, but.....

all i have to do is find a used rear end, with the gears i want, and my friend will install it for free at his house... and i the dreaded case of gas prices shooting back up to 4.00 a gallon... put the stock one back in.
