Default Power Loss!

I have a 94 Cobra. Recently, my alternator burned out and I had it rebuilt. Now I notice that when I turn on my A/C I feel a jerk, almost like a spark plug miss, and my amp guage is slightly less than without the A/C on. It did this before my alternator burned out just not as bad. Is it that my alternator isn't putting out enough amps or do I have another problem to deal with? Would buying an alternator with more amp capability solve this problem?

Dont all cars loose power when the A/C is turned on? I dont think your having any problem at all. The main fan has to turn on possibly why your voltage is going down. When you turn it off the voltage should go back off. I also notice a slight jerk when I turn my A/C on.

A jerking feeling is usually associated with the clutch on the A/C compressor coming on. Newer cars have nice new clutchs that are smoother. Our 94/95's have a few years and miles on them and will tend to not be as smooth when flipping on the switch. If you get a new clutch for the front of your compressor, then the on/off transition should once again become smooth.

Oh, also if your A/C system gets a little low on R134a, then the system should sense this and shut off temporarily and then back on. You might be able to throw a can of freon back in and have things smooth out too!
