Default Deleting the EGR Valve....

Hey all,
Last summer I replaced the headers/and exhaust on my car and damaged the EGR tube in the process. After a couple of make-shift fixes I finally went to the Ford dealer and bought a new one for 60 dollars. After that I hoped to never have to replace the tube again.
This summer I put a 3/8" intake spacer in the process of doing so split the EGR tube open again! So now I would like to block off the EGR hole on the intake and weld up the header.
My questions include: Will deleting the EGR cause problems else where? What else would I need to do to delete this? Will I need to flash the computer? What about deleting the smog pump while I'm at it? Will this cause more problems?
Looking for lots of advice from all you Ford fanatics.

Thanks for your help!

Do this, keep the EGR but make an aluminum plate to block the EGR flow to the intake.
Seal the EGR pipe.
Keep the EGR connected, it wont send a code.

If you still have cats, keep the pump, it doesnt draw much hp from the engine just like 1-2 hp.

I've got an off road Bassani-X. I can easily seal up the smog tube on that and then remove all the smog b.s. Will there be any more benefit to deleting besides freeing up a lot of space under the hood and making it look much cleaner?
Also, the code that the EGR throws, is that just a "check engine" light?
Lastly, do you know anywhere I can buy a blocker plate? I can easily make something myself but if I can buy it, that'd be easier.
I appreciate the help!

There is really little benefit from removing the EGR and Smog pump.

Removing the EGR does indeed reduce the intake temperatures, but it also increases the combustion chamber temps, which in turn increase NOx emissions and could promote detonation (ping).
That in turn might mean reducing timing or increasing octane needs.

If you have to pass emissions, you most probably fail the test without the EGR (high NOx).

As far as the smog pump, theres little gain, as i said maybe a couple HP.

I still keep the EGR but i reduced the flow a bit using an EECTuner, best of both worlds and i still pass emissions testing.

So removing them is a compromise..little gain in HP and space vs. non-emissions friendly and chance of detonation.
