over the last 2 weeks or so i have bin sanding and gasket matching my explorer upper intake when i have time and today i finaly got to polish it.
to get the factory powder coat and casting marks out i used a DA sander and a 90 degree air grinder with a gasket remover end.
i started with 80 grit and ended with 400 grit and i used WD-40 on the paper to keep it from cloging up. then today i fired up my 1 hores power bench grinder with a eastwood 10'' spiral buffing wheel and buffed away.
i have a fluffy wheel that i use a real fine compound with but i dont think i'll use it on the upper. when i do buff with the fluffy wheel things normaly get so shiny that a dry cloth of a rough hand will scratch it so i think this will do.
i do plan on painting inside of the fins (over the right valve cover) with blue paint to match my car.
i also polished up an old fox intake cover and painted it blue in the recesed areas. i even made a new one out of 1/4'' acrylic and made some decals and stuck them on the underneath side so they dont get picked off.
this is the first time i polished an upper and it might be the last...lol

The acrylic plate is awesome. I bet if you could make some for the actual GT40 intake you could make some dough. Since the GT40 intake cover is hard to find now, is why I'm guessing like that.

it could hapen but i'd need one to copy but i think if i started pumping those out my boss would'nt like it, unless i ran it through the business.
i made 2 of those acrylic plates while i was at it....so if anyone wants one of the only 2 in the world i would sell it.

94' vert with polished bomz cai, magnaflow high flow catted x-pipe, flowmaster series 40's, msd blaster coil, 3:73's, 5 speed manual, yellow top optima battery juicing up the stereo system and more hp coming soon!
That intake looks great!
I don't really like the look of a stock/unpainted exploder intake. But when they are either polished or painted a certain way they look really good.
Great job! *high five*

on friday my profestional products elbow showed up so i got to hacking on it to remove all traces of the egr mount.
today i got it done and think it looks good with out that mount on it.
i had my buddy weld the hole shut and them i smoothed it out and buffed it today.....and no, i don't need an egr...lol
That looks AWESOME! Great job on hiding the EGR mount. I give you TWO thumbs ups!

i finaly got a free weekend so i threw that intake on, just thought i throw up some pics to show how it turned out.
heres a good shot of the smoothed out egr area
heres the 6'' allen bolts i got for the upper....i turned the bottom of the heads down in my lathe so they would sit lower. then i made a thick washer and turned a taper on it and counter sunk the bolt heads into the washer...turned out kinda neat i think.

That looks great!
Now you need some blue plug wires and blue vacuum hoses and that engine bay will look even better.
