so i really dont know what is going on here. my first alternator went out so i replaced it. no big deal right? after about 4 months it started to tweak out and i found out that it was the voltage regulator. right now im on my third alternator and its starting to do the same things. should i get a performance alternator or would it do the same thing after a while? i dont want to keep replacing alternators every 4 or 5 months.

Check your grounds

Yea good idea to check your grounds and that you have a good clean connection from your terminal to your posts. My car was cutting out recently and all it was was dirty connection.

a buddy of mine had the same problem, after 3 or 4 napa/advanced auto parts alts he went and got 1 from a ford dealer....no problems since.

would i have to go to the dealer though or could i get a performance alternator from summit racing?

well, his thinking was that fords alt lasted X number of years so he went with a new ford dealer unit.

do you have underdrive pulleys?

no. i dont but im planning on getting some in a couple weeks

Maybe get some advice on what alternator to get with your desired size pulley. No reason to go out and buy a brand new alternator to find out it won't handle the underdrive pulley.
