okay so i have in my car a t5 5 spd..the second gear is completely shot..its crazy hard to get it in..as an example...when im driving it..going from first to 2nd i must hold back and pull relativly hard on the shifter to get it to catch into gear..(its so shitty)haha..but once its in it doesnt pop out..my question is i have a friend that has a gearbox..i believe it is out of a fox body. he wants to sell it to me for 400 and he says its got straight cut gears in it..i do not doubt him..would this transmission even if it was out of a foxbody..bolt rite onto my 94 bellhousing?..is it a direct swap and go type deal? or do i have to bring my drive shaft etc to a shop to have cut balanced etc..anything to look for ?..im also getting a loud whine in the car and i believe its coming from the trans aswell..could a trans deff be doing this and making my car sound like its whining from inside? please if you have anything that would help me feel free to do so
That whine could be coming from the transmission and the difficulty you're havig with engaging 2nd gear is due to a worn synchromesh. The only cure is a rebuild. The Fox T5 has a different length input shaft so it's not a direct fit and the straight cut gears, though stronger than conventional helical cut gears, whine even more than a woman going through menopause.
That hard to get into 2nd gear sounds like a bad syncro/blocker ring, not the gear itself.
As Bullitt95 stated, the fox body T5 has a shorter input shaft so you would need the fox body bell housing as well. This would move the shifter location forward as well as require modification to the cross member to make it mount back into your car.
A T5 with straight cut gears? Have you ridden in the car? Is it noisy? Straight cut gears would make it stronger(maybe, if done right where the syncro's were dog faced too) but it would also make it sound like a dump truck when shifting. It would be hard as heck to drive it on the street and downshifting would be next to impossible.

lmao now thats funny right there i dun care who ya are thats funny
a whole T5 that came out of an SN95 car *used* shouldnt cost 400 bucks lol and the issue clearly isnt gear strength, its just synchros u can fix ur tranny pretty cheap too but it really depends on how good u are a doing the work urself... but a used junkyard tranny would work to get u around til u can buy a really good one unless of course u have the money now

yeah a used tranny for 400..with straight cut gears...lol its going to sound like a dump truck..and its a daily driven car =/..so im going to have to custom make things?

I'm still curious to know if it truly has straight cut gears or not.....coulda been a line of crap that someone fed you.
Is it noisy when driving? Can you downshift easily?
You can rebuild it for next to nothing (not using straight cut gears) or just buy a reman'd one for pretty cheap.

FYI I found a T5 for $200 bucks on craigslist that came with a crossmember and bellhousing. Look around, they're out there. And like Rich said, if it has straight cut gears, it would be crazy loud and very hard to downshift. My friend has a rally STi with straight's and it's very whiny and quite difficult to downshift.
