1995 Mustang GT with Cold Air Intake Noise after install
Just installed a cold air on my 95 Gt. It has a whistling/spewing sound when cruising at steady throttle. When you're off the gas or steady accelerating, there is no noise. Is this normal?
yes welcome to having a cold air intake. what you here is the air being sucked into your motor. the smooth intake makes is swoosh when it goes through. the stock air intake was restrictive because they had the silencer to stop that.

That whistling shouldn't be there. It probably means you have a leak somewhere. I would check to make sure it's all hooked up tight and correctly...

Did you remove the screen that was in the stock intake pipe?
Without the screen it is way louder and sometimes whistles..
It really started to bother me also, then I found out that it runs better with a screen. The screen smooths out air turbulence and helps the MAF get a better reading.
I would like to find a supplier of different size screens haha
After I drove around with some drivability problems and a loud CAI for a year. I decided to install the stock screen runs great and way less noise.

Yes, I did remove the stock screen. The screen had a gasket around it and would not allowed the gasket with the CAI to fit properly to the mass air. But I think I might try that again.

If its what im thinking i just left the screen on and just tightened it a good bit. Working so far for me
I took the rubber off of the screen and used a super small amount of of permetex copper to help my seal. Yeah, not so ideal but worked.
Need bigger tubes and different sized screens this CAI BS is just BS.
I dont think my BBK CAI really did anything, I don't think it is very cold haha.. its more like a heat sink, I don't think it will fit a bigger MAF and TB very well. But it fracken looks cool.
I'm considering wrapping the BBK with header tape to help keep it cool.
Warning, some PVC sealents can damage the O2s if used on intakes.
I let it dry good and took my chances.
,Matt

Yeah, I think the CAI is just a bunch of bull too. I wrapped every connection with duct tape, just to make sure it was sealed. I took the gasket off and put the screen in. It actually made the sucking sound worse. It helps under acceleration but under steady throttle, it's actually worse. I just bought the cheap CAI from american muscle, I was curious if some other brands may not make that noise???? I guess I can just turn up the radio to drown it out. I was wondering if a larger throttle body might help reduce the noise, since there is more air getting to the TB with the CAI???

Reason: forgot something
I like American Muscle but a while back I bought a cheap cold air intake from them for my 96 V6 Mustang and it was terrible. It made such a sucking and whining sound that it actual distracted me when I was driving. I tried all kinds if this to make it quite but finally took it off and put the original air intake back on. I do not know why these make so much noise but it seems like the thin material they are made of adds to the noise.

I have a homemade CAI on my car, gotten remarks from mustang owners (local) that it looks like an anderson CAI, other people who hear it ask me if im running a Turbo charger. And yes I take pride in what I made, especially when it has not that many turns and angles as the BBK, mac, etc. Im also running a 70mm BBK TB. http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture158.jpg

if the cai you have is the american muscle el cheapo unit like the one i bought im pretty sure that the noise is from the crappy autozone ricer filter inside the fender.
anyone else with this intake have fitment issuse with the rubber couplers from the cia to the throttle body? my kit only came with one stepdown for the maf and not the tb. also with the fender blockoff plate?
