Default Opinion on replacing or rebuilding broken Transmission 1995 Mustang GT

Alright well its not totally broken...lol

I blew reverse out of it the other night. Somehow. Its the worst sound in the world though if you try it. I'm pretty sure the gear is snapped because fifth works fine.

Also my synchros in first are starting to go and the synchros in 2nd are gone, i have to double clutch second everytime. But other than that it works great :-P

Mainly Stock car, new headers and H-Pipe for that wonderful sound. Get the transmission rebuilt or a get a new (used) Transmission? Car has 170k on the dash.

rebuild it =) probly abt 300 labor and 250 for the rebuild kit. And probably 50-150 for the new reverse gear.

If you buy used, you don't know what exactly you're getting. A refurbished unit will be way expensive. I would have it rebuilt.

the pro motion t5s are pretty cheap for what they are. and they are quite a bit stronger than stock t5s.

Okay, so the shop in town wants 1500 to rebuild my tranny....yeah right. i found a guy with a t-5 out of a 94, just rebuilt no miles on it since it was rebuilt...500 bucks...i could keep getting quotes on rebuilding but it seems this would be easier...

Your thoughts, oh mighty mustang experts? :-)

Well mathematically I would go with the "rebuilt no miles" trans BUT I would really try to get some evidence that it has been rebuilt by some one with some credibility. No point of buying a trans that some random guy rebuilt in his garage when you could get yours rebuilt and reinstalled with a warranty for $1500. You figure just experimenting with the $500 rebuilt trans could cost you $1500 by the time you have it installed and removed.

Last, if you can install the trans yourself then talk the price of the $500 trans down as much as you can. Install it yourself and hopefully it is a good rebuilt trans with no problems.

Good luck. I hate trans issues.

If you have the tools necessary to take the transmission out, then you can rebuild it yourself for the cost of parts only. Manual transmissions are pretty simple to rebuild.

Just another suggestion.

Other than that, I would either have it rebuilt or buy a new/refurbished. But I wouldn't buy a used one off Ebay or anything...

If you can get proof that it's truly rebuilt with no miles, I'd go with that.

if you go the rebuild it yourself route you should check out hanlon. they are a great company when it comes to trannys. my cousin got his rebuilt for his t5 for pretty cheap and it was the performance rebuilt with carbon fiber parts. not sure why he needs carbon fiber, he is only putting a 351 in his fox haha.

The kit I got cost $249.95 at the time with carbon fiber synchros. I was told from a guy I talked to about his t5 that he tried doing a burnout in his 91 with the t5 in reverse and it like popped his rear gear off? He had it pressed back on "This is what he said". Then he said he accidentally did it again in the car wash and just switched to a tko 500 in his stock gt. So I don't know if that's how you would fix a situation like that but that's what he said.

Yeah, i'll start by saying i know that leaving a problem like this go so long is pretty dumb on my part. secondly, i'll say i think i'm getting pretty good at drifting backwards into parking spaces as well as pushing this monster.

Anyways,

The tranny i found for a 94 was what i wanted to do, however, the guy stopped responding to my emails, therefore not wanting my money :-) I found a tranny out of a 5.0 from 1990 and have heard multiple people and tranny shops tell me multiple things about what i would have to change. So i come again to the mighty mustang men and ladies to help me.

So far i've gathered i would need to keep my bell housing off of my old tranny, as well as possibly change two different parts where the tranny meets the engine, possibly a throw out bearing or some kind of bushing???? not exactly sure. Also, i would need to make sure SOMETHING is the right length...i'm going to try to get a tag number from the new guy so i can be sure.

and of course, if this would be impossible, just let me know :-)

thank you guys and gals for your support !!

94-95 cars are different, so if you use an older model tranny you will need to change bell housing, drive shaft, crossmember, stay with our model T-5.

www.g-forcetransmissions.com

If you are looking for a new or rebuilt model or something different. There are other places to go with, these are just the two that I am thinking of going with. I have bought parts from astroperformance when I went with the 3550.

But what you really need to ask yourself is what do you plan on doing to your car in the future. If you plan on putting more power then don't stay with a stock T-5, it will not handle the added power over about 300-350 ft lbs. If you plan on having more than that go with the TKO 500 or 600 or a G-Force T-5 that are built to handle more power.

Just my two cents.
