Default Power Plus Series BBK mass air meter - will it help on almost stock 1995 Mustang GT

saw this advertised as 'as much as 15 rear-wheel horsepower with the simple bolt-on'..

see
Brothers Brings BBK Power To The Mustang Masses - Ford Mustang News

Now for which applications would this make sense? does this only make sense in combo with higher end mods such as h/c/i or what would it do in a near-stock setup on say at 95GT?

thanks

On my 95 I chose the C&L 76mm mass air meter and inlet kit. With this kit as you make improvements like larger injectors all you have to do is buy a sampling tube and replace tube for the larger injector size.other meters require recalibration from the factory.

Not gonna do much, if anything, on your stock motor. doesnt make a difference how much air u get through the meter if u cant get it in the motor or out the exhaust any fast. I would say upgrade the intake, exhaust, and injectors and u will see a good increase in power

It won't do anything for a mostly stock 5.0. The only time you would want/need to change your MAF is when you NEED to get larger injectors.
The '94-'95 GT's come stock with a 70mm MAF, which is large enough for even a mildly modified 5.0.

At the most you MIGHT see a 5HP gain on a stock/mostly stock 5.0. But that is a big MAYBE...

On someones stock 5.0 would they benefit from buying this item and putting bigger injectors?

No there will be no benifits on a stock 5.0.

You don't even need to up the injector size (24#) until you're over 300+ HP at the crank.
There is one of two things that could happen in the situation you posted...
1. The car would run way too rich killing your power.
OR...
2. (if the MAF is calibrated for the injectors) It should still use up the same fuel consumption as with the smaller injectors which means no extra power...

you will gain some hp by getting a larger maf unit...."mustangs and fast fords" last magizine put a larger maf on a stock 5.0 and gained about 5rwhp....

That is a realistic expectation...
Did it happen to say what size TB was used in that experiment?

The air inlet (filter, MAF, inlet tube, and TB) is only limited by the smallest part. In other words, even if you get a 75mm MAF but still running the stock 60mm TB. The intake is still only going to be able to suck in whatever that 60mm TB will allow.

Hope that makes sense.

The only gain you might see from a larger MAF on stock motor would be the loss of the post in the middle of the stock MAF.

That sounds about right. The first performance mod I did on my GT after I bought it bone stock was the C&L 76mm CAI/MAF kit and it was a definite improvement over stock. I made sure that it was calibrated for the stock 19lb injectors (which I still have).

yep, i believe even with the stock tb imporvements can be made...

if i rememeber correctly

thats why a speed density car will out-run a maf car because the maf was too small from the factory... correct me if im wrong...

Not sure about the speed density deal. I think the speed density doesn't respond well to mods though.
I do know that the FOXes come with like a 56 or 58mm MAF and about the same size TB.

Here ya go...

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/51.shtml

The SN95's come with a 75mm MAF but there is a nice sized post right in the middle that takes up about 5mm. So it's considered a 70mm MAF. And the GT's AND Cobra's both come with 60mm TB.

i am talking strictly stock vs. stock... speed desnisty should win because of the restriction the stock maf provides...
