Default I need the help deciding on mods.....fuel injected 302.

im a 17 year old highschooler and im new to the website so excuse me if the questions are a bit broad. my and my dad have been resotoring a 66 mustang for a while now we have a fuel injected 302 not sure of the year and a c4 tranny. both have under 50k miles on them.. however, i am looking for mods that will increase horsepower and give me a nice idle and overall sound of the car..i really dont wana do any seriouse work on it yet like heads or anything like that & i dont want to go to crazy. i just want to know whats the best out there for me. h or x pipe? what cam? what size trottle body? what headers? what exhaust? intake? and what chip for the ecu? or how to i program the ecu? basically i want the best bolt on parts to give me what im looking for.

Thanks alot!

A picture of the engine would help determine the year and help with suggestions.

Is there a certain budget and HP goal?

If you're looking for cheap, decent HP the GT40 top end is about as good as it gets for the money you'll spend. Check out Ebay for GT40 heads and intakes. There are 3 GT40 intakes: Cobra, Explorer, GT40 (tubular). All 3 perform the same the only difference is the looks.
With a GT40 top end you can see around 250HP or more.

For headers... go full length or go home.

If $1500 is it, then you need to bypass the engine parts and do things like the full exhaust from the headers back. Since it's a 1966, I'd say long tube headers (roughly $400-$500), a good midpipe ($200), mufflers and tailpipes ($250).

Then use what's left over to get the computer tuned.

Everyone wants to change the cam first. The cam is the last thing to change because it depends on everything else like the heads, intake, compression, among many other things. Putting a bigger cam into an otherwise stock engine will be a waste of time, effort, and money because you won't gain anything from it. Until you get better heads and intake (at least), forget the cam for now.

Totally agree on exhaust first or at the same time as heads/intake/cam (HCI). Better breathing heads and intake need to be able to exhale!

If you do all the work yourself you might be able to get lucky and get the exhaust and GT40 top end with $1500.

Here's a suggestion that could save you some money...
Buy long tube headers, then get a midpipe made at an exhaust shop and, if possible, get the catback made at the exhaust shop. You could save quite a bit by getting them made instead of buying name brand stuff.

The GT40 top end could get you around 250ish HP, and a little more with the right cam.

If you get long tube headers then you can get the GT40P heads. I've seen the "P" heads on ebay for anywhere between $300-$400, then an explorer intake will be around $250.

Hope all this info helps.
