Question about hard shifting

I'm having problems with some really hard shifting on my automatic.
It clunks when I stop, like if I'm at a stop sign you can feel the whole
car jump. It also has problems sometimes if I'm going steady but near
a shift speed, it will jump back and forth and rattle the car.

Do you think its a problem with the transmission or just a universal joint?

hard shifting on aode trannys sometimes is a broken accumulator spring.

a trannsgo shift kit comes with a new one.

Shift kits FTW!!!

Firm shifting is usually a sign of a good transmission, but hard, jerky shifting isn't good.
The rattling could be a bad U-joint. To check it just reach under the car and grab the driveshaft, then pull back and forth and see if there is any "wiggle" in it. If you can feel some play in it then you probably need to change the u-joint(s).
