1995 Mustang GTS Looking for a better exhaust sound
Excuse me if I'm beating a dead horse, but i've looked thru this board, i've listened to every exhaust clip that I can find, but still need help. I have a 95GTS and I don't care about adding horsepower, i'm just looking for a better sound that WILL NOT give me a headache at cruising speed (the dreaded drone). It doesnt matter to me, if it's just a muffler change or CAT back, whatever. Any suggestions on what brand/type, etc?

I have an O/R H with a MAC 2.5" Catback and I loove it! Sounds good when u romp on it but at crusing speen 65-80 it is just a low roar not loud at all inside. Unless the windows are down. You hear it a little better but not deafining

I really need to get a video of my exhaust.
Fortunately adding an exhaust system won't just give you better sound but also help your engine breath which means HP!
If you want the best sound, then long tube headers are the only way to go. Then add an O/R (offroad) H or X pipe. The H pipe tends to give a deeper more "muscley" tone, whereas the X pipe tends to give it more of a raspy sound. To me, the X pipe gives it that 4.6L sound.
Then add a full flowmaster cat-back.
I am using BBK full length headers, I have my stock midpipe, but it's modified to fit the long tubes and has no cats (I'm getting a H pipe VERY soon). And I have the stock cat back but with flowmaster 40 series muff's.
It is pretty quiet with a deep rumble at idle, but when I open her up she let's everyone know she's coming!

All mufflers have a drone, but there's some with a more pronounced drone than others.
Dynomax has a drone around 1800-1900.
Flowmaster seems to be around 2200.
My Super 40s are at 1800-1900 like the Dynomax. They even sound like Dynomax but with a hollower sound.
You can get the Delta Flow model Flowmaster and it's designed for those worried about a drone. Majority of the sound will be on the outside of the car rather than resonating into the interior.

Ask me why I ran "only" a 13.54.

Yep, my 40's start at around 2200 up to 3000.

From reading description (which leaves a lot to be desired, I'm sure), the Flowmaster Delta Flow 50 series sounds like what I am looking for. A nicer rumble than stock but keeps interior noise low. I'll keep looking.
I like the way my cats sound, when it's unhooked at the cat back flange, or with about 18" of pipe and a turn down. The in cab resination started bothering me, that's why I like the slp1 with cats sound. Pretty much the same sound just out the back and its quiet in the car now. SLP1 is just straight pipe with empty mufflers. My dad said he could here me like a mile away the other day when I was at like 5,000 rpm..just in first and 2nd gear, testing something. Around town its just a little louder than stock, I think. I never hear it from the back when the car is moving..

Also understand that "drone" is the sound you hear on deceleration after the rev that's the sound Flowmasters are famous for. You can hear it during the rev also but more after the rev. In Cab Resonation, to me is kinda like getting boxed in the ears super fast over and over again. At certain RPMs is way worse and its hard to even hear people talk loudly. So drone and Cab Resonation are different deals. I think you may have gotten them confused.

my hooker aero chambers dont seem to drone much at all... but thats on my PI 4.6 SOHC sooo idk if its'll be the same for sure. I just know It sounds a hell of a lot better with a hell of a lot less drone then my dads 95 with flowmaster 40's
