What am I missing? Timing spec is 10* and max without serious detonation is probably around 16*. Normal performance boost would be to around 14*. If you are leaving the spout out with the timing set at 30* are you running some piggyback system or chip with a look-up timing table based on load.

i was told to try this because it would eliminate the computers need to add/take out timing when the computer adds 16 degrees of timing to a 14 degree setting it makes 30 degrees.. i am changing it back to 14 today but i was just trying it out... there is a whole 9 page thread about this over at corral.net

You must be talking about total timing??

I cant even imagine that you could start your car with that much initial timing in?

Thats what I was asking, were you speaking of total timing.... That much total timing is fine. Thats how I set timing in all of my older carburated cars... run the car up to 3500 to get the mechanical advance in, with the vacuum line disconected and set the total timing.
