Get a COMPLETE swap kit, easiest and less expensive route, i've been there and trust me getting parts little by little is time and money wise not efficient.

Get a good clutch kit (King Cobra is quite good), with new flywheel, cable, TO bearing and pilot bearing.

If you dont race your car much a T5 will survive, but a TKO or 3550 will outlast your engine

The TKO is a stronger version of the 3550 mainly the output shaft.

ok im totaly inept about manual parts,
i understand i need to get this stuff :

Transmission - Flywheel - Clutch - clutch cables- shifter

ok i think im going to go with the tremec 3550
a billet flywheel. dunno yet, how big of a diffrence is there with the billet and cast iron? and what do u recomend?
should i get a pro 5.0 shifter? whats the big diffrence between the regular one? also what kind of clutch should i get, i hear about cobra, king cobra, steeda and all that good stuff. but im not shure about what i need cause i have never done anything like this before
i need something that will take the abuse my engine will throw at it and whop some serious ass on the street.

im concerned about the problems i may run into with the crossmember and subframe connectors and all that stuff i have, what about with the speedo gear swap and stuff .

later on i might get an alum drive shaft but thats not importaint.

Dont change the tranny! To much trouble! Here is the recipe for success for a auto tranny. First 4.10 gears, 2500 stall, transbrake, and a great custom burnt chip. Take your $1,800 and spend it on the best AFR heads you can get for that price! This will save you ALOT of aggrivation, time, and money and will send you DEEP into some serious times at the track!

GT40 heads suck compared to AFR! Ask anyone! 4.10 gears work better with auto's and you need a custom burnt chip! You will gain a tleast 50 h.p with the change to afr's alone!

unless ur gonna be a SERIOUS track car, just change the 5 speed over. i did it, love it, would do it again in a heart beat. an auto with a torque converter trans brake and all that stuff is awsome, but will still cost a bit much. YOU will have alot more fun with your car as a 5 speed. i know i did.

5-speeds are fun I know too! But, to convert to manual is a pain. He already has the tranny and a converter and trans brake doesnt cost much. They are about $600.00 for both. He will also have advantages that a 5-speed cannot provide. They are consistancy, no miss shifts that may cause possible motor damage, and no "shock or jolts" from dropping the clutch to the drivetrain.

ok supposing i do keep my tranny a manual,
give me some options,

my tranny is messing up, im not shure whats wrong with it but i think its bad it wont shift into higher gears, and it gets to about 35 mph and then it starts to slow down unless i put it in neutral then back into drive.

as for the AFR heads i cant afford them right now.
my car is prety fast as it is, i just need a tougher tranny to handle it

.....
ok now i am giving some serious thought to stayin automatic, but i just dont understand the deal, im uncomfortable drilling into my transmission for a valve body and stuff,
could someone explain it a bit better, so i can weigh my decision?
also if im getting this right.
all i would need to get is a transbrake,
and a converter.
BUT how can i shift with that manual valve body when i wanna whop ass, do i have to go into 2 and 1??? on the shifter
and as for converters, explain the stall speed reqs. and what would be good for my setup.

They make aod's with overdrive that will handle your power level. Check in your generic 5.0 magazines and research it. Also, get a 2500 stall and a custom burned chip and you will run like a mad dog!

the 5 speed swap isnt hard. its just time consuming. anyone with good knowledge can do it. of course its best to have a couple extra sets of hands to help.

ok from what i understand this is what has to be done..

first remove the auto trany and drive shaft
then install a flywheel, clutch, and shifter.
replace the harness
install the new tranny ( dose this involve modifying the shifter hole?)
relocate the crossmember, and attach the driveshaft

what else am i missing...

it all sounds a bit 2 easy to me lol
