Default Why you should clean your MAF sensor on a 1994-1995 mustang

I own a 1995 mustang gt with 221k miles on it. So i never thought it's severe lack of performance was out of the ordinary, but i've recently been cleaning it up and trying to make it look nice and be a better car. before I went out and started buying parts, I figured I'd do what I could with what I had. I started with cleaning the Mass Air Flow Sensor.

This video explains why this was one of the best decisions i've ever made regarding this car.

Moral of the story:
If you have a 1994-95 mustang GT with high mileage and you haven't cleaned your MAF sensor in a while, do it now.

Ben, good incentive

For first 3 years (I am so ashamed of that) I owned my car was such a dog and I couldn't figure out why.

Good story with a good moral!

Any type of solvent that doesn't leave a residue should work fine.

I just dipped a q-tip in rubbing alcohol and very very very gently rubbed it against the wires. you just need to make sure you don't leave any q-tip fibers on the wire.

The top three choices are:

MAF cleaner
Electrical contact cleaner
Non-chlorinated brake cleaner.

The element is fragile. Remove MAF sensor from air intake tube and just spray the element well and allow to dry. Re-install and you are good to go.

I've used regular ol' carb cleaner both time I've cleaned my MAF. Works just fine. I just spray it with the carb cleaner, then gently wipe it clean with a q-tip. Let it dry for about 5 minutes and re-install it.

I've heard so many people say "ONLY use MAF cleaner", I never have and mine works just fine.

Proud to say I have cleaned my MAF for the first time ever today .

My 0-60 times were lacking as well. My gas mileage has gone to sh`t too...(with gas at $3.45...)

The packed-in black tube under the hood can blow me though...Such a tight fit inbetween the throttle body and the air filter.

I hate that ba5tard thing...seems like I always have to mess with it for like 10 minutes, get all ticked off, and then suddenly it slides right into place...

EXACTLY.

Anyway I have had great success. My gas mileage doesn't suck anymore
My overall power has increased dramatically.
Its raining here in GA today and I have spun the back tires on nearly every turn I have made. I love rain drifting but holy crap, I only did it on purpose once and I just kept going and going and going. First time I got scared in my car in a while.

I like how Tool is playing in the background. My car has 132k on it and never have cleaned it...I'll have to check it out this weekend. I don't seem to be lacking in any performance though

If you guys are talking about the intake tube, it's easy to put on. Put it on the air filter side first, then mount it to the TB side. Should be easy. It only takes me a couple seconds to do mine...
