Default i hear ya

my 1993 cougar xr7 did the same a couple days ago. its a piece of crap i bought for 500 bucks but still it has a 5.0 too. i was drivin home from school and it just cut out on me in the middle of an intersection. i pulled every spark plug wire and fuse and wiggled everything around and cleared out the now flooded motor. it was cranking, in just wouldnt fire. finaly i musta wiggled the right wire and it started right up and ive been drivin it ever sense. id make sure yur gettn spark and fuel it could be your fuel pump or somthin else with yur ignition system.

Typical event for the PIP sensor in the distributor. It may come back to life but not for very long. I'm guessing that the distributor is original with over 70k+ miles. It could be other things too. Fuel pump or maybe a sensor. I would check for codes even if the CEL isn't on.

+1 Sounds like a bad PIP. Time for a new dizzy or just buy the new pip and have it installed in the old dizzy if you cant do it yourself. You need a press to do it.

Yeah i mean my dizzy is only a yearold i had it replaced about a year ago, i forget why but it is fairly new, i cant scan for codes because i dont have the original computer, nor do i have a stock motor in the car, i only checked the fuses in the engine bay, i didnt check under the dash, if theres any that could of blown that are important for the car to start, I never had any symptoms of the car running bad, it was just all of a sudden so thats why i don't know if it is that pip or not. I know i just installed a 12'sub with a 1200 watt amp, i was blasting the music at the ime it died but i dont know if that means anything or not

If the dizzy was a reman you could still have a PIP issue. You need to start to trouble shoot a few things. Can you verify spark and fuel?

Ok just had a friend help who is a mechanic, we played with the dizzy, and also we played with the ignition switch, the car just won't get any kind of spark at all, and we have no clue what is doing it, not sure if it is a bad ground or what, but we just can't figure out whats wrong with it

I take it you haven't checked the codes. It may help. What exactly does playing with the dizzy mean? If it wasn't installed in the correct position what did you do to put it in the correct position? There is a proper procedural sequence to follow to get it right.

If its not getting spark, it shut off while you was driving, and it wont start its your ignition module. Mite be diff on your car but on my 87 its on the distributor. Id assume its pretty much the same. Hope this helps. Im pretty sure thats your problem bud. Good luck

If you just installed new sterio gear,i would investigate where they picked up the powersupply for the amp because if they tied in to an existing fuse and you were jamming probably blew the fuse for something important when the amp fuse popped.

Ok i know the dizzy is installed right i put the #1 piston at top dead center, then inserted the distributor, I already tried replacing the ignition control module, and that didn't do anything on a 94-95 its by the cold air intake, and i installed my sub and amp, i put the power wire onthe battery, and grounded my amp in the trunk on a bolt that holds down one of the stock amps on the drivers side thats right next to the convertible top motor. edit: how can i check the codes if my motor has been built, and I have an a9l ecu ? will i still be able to check codes ?

There are 2 TDC's. One on the exhaust stroke and one on the compression stroke. You want the compression stroke and the timing mark at 0 on the balancer with the dizzy rotor pointing to about 12 o'clock and the #1 spark plug wire. But you still need spark and that isn't happening. Have you checked the fuses in the engine compartment fuse box? IIRC there are about 4 that can affect the ignition circuit. In addition there are a number of switches that can are part of the ignition circuit such as the ignition switch, clutch pedal switch, anti-theft control module, transmission range sensor to name a few.

Ok yeah we have the car down at my neighbors shop, and he's taking a look at it, and what it could be, they went ahead and made sure the distributor was put in correctly, and I also checked every fuse, the ones in the engine compartment, and the ones underneath the dashboard, I don't have any kind of anti theft alarm in the car, so it cant be that, but what i want to know is why the car would just die while driving then not want to start, it cranks so wouldnt that mean the ignition switch is working ? i dont think the clutch pedal or transmission range would do anything like that, i don't know what to do lol im lost, i was a the shop for like an hour yesterday helping them out, and stuff, but were stumped at this point.
