Default 1995 Mustang gt fog lights

I just put in my new xenon headlights and fog lights that I got for christmas. I drive a lot around the time its not quite dark, but not fully sunny either. I usually just turn my parking lights on so people can see me better. (also, lets face it, a white stang with parking lights on looks like a cop coming :hihi:. People always slow down coming the other way.)

However, I would like to have JUST my fogs on at times like these. I've seen many pictures with stangs that just have the parking lights and fogs on. However, mine won't come on like that. The button in the console lights up, but the fogs aren't on unless the low beams are on. :?:

Is there something I have to wire differently?
Is it also normal for the fogs to turn off when turning the brights on?

Yes. You will need to rewire them. They are this way as they are not intended to be used as the only light source while driving.

Yes. As noted above. The application is to penetrate fog at a lower level than the headlights when on low beam. Using high beams in foggy conditions doesn't work as the headlight glare back to you can be blindingly bright.

I'm aware of this, but they would only be for daytime / cloudy / near dusk. Fog lights are also cheaper and easier to replace than the standard bulbs (hence, using them instead of low beams). It is also illegal in GA to drive with just your parking lights on.

So how would I go about rewiring them?

I had the same thing on my 94 mustang. Since I put in an aftermarket radio in a couple month earlier and the wiring was still fresh in my head, I ran a wire up the center console and hooked it up to the power wire from the ignition. Not sure of the colors anymore but I believe its the yellow wire at the radio and just check the 4 wires at the switch to see which one receives the power.

Ahh yes. I put in my radio last year and didn't even think of it!! I remember there were some extra wires that were not used.
Time to get out the Haynes auto book and do some searching!

I've never seen a write up on how to re-wire your fogs to turn on by THEMSELVES. The only write-up I've seen is for when the parking lights are on the fogs come on with them...

There should be a way to just hook up the fogs to an individual switch and bypass the headlights all together.

But if I remember correctly, the '94-'95s foglights should stay on whether you have the brights on or not. I can't really remember, but I'm pretty sure mine stay on when my brights are on...

They might but they aren't supposed to.

Yes, this is what I want. But just having the fogs on would be cool too. :smoke:

No problem. Someone once helped me with the same issue. Just returning the favor. I've actually printed and saved a few write ups on popular mods.
