Default how to get better traction

trying to get better traction on my 94 gt convertible,any ideas. gonna put new shocks and upper control arms on. if i change the swaybar in the rear will it give me better traction?

Better traction where? Street or track?
The sway bar won't make any difference in straight line traction. Lower control arms are a good idea, but before you do upper control arms you need to consider a few things: Changing the upper control arms will exemplify the poor geometry of the 4-link suspension design. Yes, if the only factor that concerns you is straight line traction, UCAs with poly bushings will help you out quite a bit. However, if you're interested in making corner handling better, upper control arms with polyurethane bushings will diminish the car's cornering capability. Simply put, decide what you are looking for and what doesn't matter as much.

Oh, and what tires are you using? Traction starts with tires, suspension follows

Yep tires first. I had Pirelli Pzero Nero tires which is what all the new mustangs had so I figured they would be good...hated them. Got some Micheline's and WAY better.

Shocks/struts help firm it up in a turn and straight line. So do better sway bars.
Springs you can get some that are either meant for turning or launching in a straight line.
And yep control arms help with turning or straight line depending on what you get.

This is a question for my knowledge as well as the original poster; most control arms come with polyurethane bushings....what bushings should I get to maximize turning performance and can I replace the bushings in control arms with something else?

Nitto NT555 are a great tire! had em last 3 years and love em..hard compound so they dont lose their tread when u lite em up as easy as a regular tire..plus 3500rpm drop the clutch and they grip and launch ya forward and they do pretty damn well in snow considerin their 275s all the way around haha..(had to drive it in the snow to take it to the shop to work on it lol)..But tires make a huge difference

A drag radial would be a good tire to go with as far as launching. They are softer than most tires (which will cause them to wear more), but they will hook much better.

This is true lol. I'm running Sumitomo HTZ II (cheaper tire) on my car. Surprisingly, they hook very good and never seem to slip in the corners. That could be because they are 315/35 too haha

thanks guys. im looking to improve my quater mile time. i already have lower control arms and lowering springs. im thinking of getting some drag radials.

Dude, if you're trying to improve 1/4 mile times, not amount of suspension modification will help when you're using street tires.
Mickey Thompson makes what most consider the best drag radial ever. Hoosier's new DR looks like a bad mo fo as well.

Another thing that is hurting your 1/4 times is the lowering springs. They can help in the twistys but hurt in a stright line.

I wanted better cornering on the street so I opted for Maximum Motorsports LCAs (poly bushings at chassis end, spherical bearings at axle end) and Edelbrock adjustable UCAs (spherical bearings at chassis end, poly bushings at axle end). The spherical bearings allow the axle more freedom of movement relative to the chassis, so the rear wheels stay firmly planted to the road and provide better grip when cornering.

Drag radials would be good.
Since you have a vert I'd also weld in full length subframe connectors, remove the 25lb passenger side inner fenderweight, reinforce the torque boxes, upgrade the upper control arms, and disconnect the front anti-sway bar to aid rear weight transfer during launch.

To what fender weight do you refer and how do you remove it? I did a quick search on google and found nothing.
