Default Odometer stopped working on my 1995 Mustang GT

SO a few days ago i stopped to fill up gas, and i use an app on my droid to keep track of my fillups and MPG's and such. i was currently at 153062 miles on the car when i did a partial fill up. after getting to my girlfriends house, i realized the odometer didnt even move, neither did the little trip odometer. So.. great.. how simple is it to fix that problem? what would i have to look for?

Chances are high that the tiny plastic worm gear that is on the drive motor (in the back of the cluster) for the odo/trip has broken. Common problem with the "black" gears in the mid-to-late '90s Fords. You can order a "white" gear for a few bucks. Simple to replace.

Easy fix yeah, but you get bent over. $60 after shipping for two tiny gears :?:

I would advise you to open the cluster and test the stepping motor which turns the gears. It will suck if you pay for the gears only to find out the motor doesn't work.

Good luck.

I know this thread is a little old, but if you haven't done so already, order the gears from www.latemodelrestorationsupply.com. They are cheaper and they are still odometergears.com gears.
