Default roller rocker arms, valve covers, and intake spacer

here's the deal. I have a 95 mustang GT with the popular bolt on's (heads, cam, intake...ect)
installed is a set of ford racing roller rocker arms. to clear them I installed tall valve covers.
to clear the valve covers I had to install a 1" intake spacer and there is the problem, the spacer
moved up the power band to high for my driving habits. I don't get any real power below 3200 rpm
and don't like to rev the car past 5500 rpm so I know there is power being lost in the upper rpm band.
now this is the thing. I'd like to know which valve cover can I use that would clear the rocker arms
and allow me to use a smaller spacer (3/8" maybe). any suggestions?

I'm under the impression that the use of the spacer has two effects. It redues heat transfer to the upper intake and increases runner length resulting in more low end torque.

You need to look elsewhere in your stated loss of low end 'power.' The spacer should of helped your situation, not hurt it.

the spacer does hurt in the low end power, ditch it go with the stock gasket the provided. Go find yourself some fox body valve covers and grind out the baffles. This should work perfectly.

I have to agree with Tominator!

Your FMS rockers, are they bolt down? They should clear factory valve covers. We have FMS rockers on my son's 90 with FMS vavle covers that are no taller than stock.

The valve covers on 94/95 are different than the fox body valve covers, a lot smaller. reason I said there is a power loss, was it was proven with a freinds dyno pull, unless other factors made the difference, like weathe, but no other mods were done, except the spacer.

Glen, I agree the Fox valve covers have more room. On that note though, my 94 Cobra has the stock stamped steel covers with factory (by Crane) 1.7:1 roller rockers that clear just fine. The thing here is that they are bolt down and not stud mount. Stud mount will not clear

One more bit of info on the Fox valve covers. A friend pointed out that there are two different castings. I believe the earlier castings, 1986-87, have no bosses that need to be trimmed out for roller rockers. They can be identified by the gasket flange. The earlier covers taper from the flange on the outside, the later covers are squared off. Look for the tapering of the flange, these are the covers to find.

ive never heard of losing power because of a spacer of any size, were the new rockers of a different ratio?

the car has not lost power it just moved up in the rpm band, the power I would get at 2200 rpm is now at 3200-3500 rpms. the rocker arms are 1.6 ratio stud mounted (edelbrock performer heads)

wow, that sounds like a big jump in RPM's. have you tried calling steeda or mabye brothers performance and just asking them if that kind of change in power is normal with just the addition of a spacer?

btw, where in the bronx are ya?

So, Does Anyone Have Suggestions For Valve Covers That Would Clear The Ford Racing Roller Rocker Arms, And Clear The Intake? There's Got To Be Someone Out There Running Those Rocker Arms On A 94-95.......or Do I Have To Live With My 1"spacer.
