well couple days ago,i took my car to the track for the first time and i was running 17s i couldnt believe it .i have a 95 gt convertible and its auto.i also have mac LT headers, mac ORH,magnaflow magnapack mufflers,K N air filter.my best was 17.00 @80mph.what could be the problem.any help will be very helpful.thanks for anyone that helps me out.
Now this was my first time at the track, here are my numbers.
Sounds like possible driving issues, if the car is in relatively good shape. I think some of these tips will help.
Step one
I am assuming you are running stock tires.
1. So when you stage, do not go thru water box to do a burnout your just wasting rubber, go around the water box if you can. If you cant, roll thru water box and do some dry hops to clean water of tires don’t smoke them, just enough to sling the water off and then go put a bug in the slick racers ears that you are putting water (cause you are) on the track by not being allowed to go around the water box. Hopefully they complain.
Step Two
Did you manually shift the car or did you put in drive an stomp on the gas?1. First try not shifting to get a couple consistent runs, from step one
2. Drive the car out of the hole, the tires should just spin slightly.
3. Look to see where the car is shifting automatically and make a mental note of these shift points, as the car may not be shifting at the best rpm. Does it make it into overdrive? If goes into over drive early, this will kill performance. Kind of looks like it does from the 1000' footmark to the 1320 mark.
4. Come back to pit and compare 60' (which seem a little slow, spinning tires??) times and 1/4 times. I bet will see a pretty nice drop just from this launching technique.
5. Next try manually shifting. Shifting at around 5000 rpm and then increasing rpm shift points till performance starts to drop off then going back to the previous rpm for best performance. Also, (for you automatic guys, do you still have to go to second and pull back to 1 so comp doesn’t shift early), if this is the case talk to a couple automatic people for the best technique (I am a five speed guy). You should only need to get into drive/3rd to finish out the 1/4
Also, Temp, humidity, elevation will all play a part too... the same car on different track could have significant difference in elapse times.
Well.. I am betting you will drop 2 tenth of your time, again, if the car is in good condition.
