Default Ported stock E7 or GT40 heads?

I have a 94 gt and im looking at trying to change up my heads. Im looking at either porting my stock heads or trying to put on some gt40 heads by myself. I'm wanting to do this as cheap as possible and I'm not sure which h would be more affordable. With the gt40 don't you have to replace the factory springs before you put them on because they're weak? And is there a thread or website that shows the right way to install heads? Im kinda new to working with heads

I'm no expert but I do believe you'd waste money porting the stock heads vs getting a set of gt40's. I think the 40's outflow ported e7 heads but I could be wrong. You can easily find a set of gt40's with upgraded springs for $400. Upgrading the springs is a must when you run a better cam but even if you still use the stock cam you should upgrade the springs anyways for the best performance.

I vote for getting GT40 heads and porting them. If those heads come from an Explorer/Mountaineer, you can swap over the springs from your E7's. If they're GT40 heads from a Cobra, they'll already have uprated valve springs.
