After driving on the freeway for 25 minutes going about 70mph or 75mph, I exit and come to a light and the car starts to idle very high. It will slow down after I am about to change gears and then idles high again. The car will not idle high after I am driving through the city. Any advice is appreciated.

things I would check / clean / adjust are : Clean the idle air control valve , adjust the throttle position sensor so it reads .98 vdc , and make sure the vaccuum lines are all ok and not cracked or broken , clean the egr valve , and finally clean the mass air sensor . While your at it , throw a timing light on it and make sure thats ok too . All you need to do all that is a couple cans of carb cleaner and a few hours to kill . I guarantee it will run better
