I have a 95 5 speed. everyone has lower gears, i really want to get some too, they say its the best bang for your buck. I was just wondering what gears you guys have, and what rpm are you guys runing at on the highway. when im driving about 70, my rpms are at 2000 with the stock gears. lower gears are going to give you higher rpms for the same speed. im thinking 355s would be ideal, but i really want 373's, but i really dont know if i should get them because it wouldnt do good on the freeway. they say i will regret not getting 373's. i do occasionally drive on the freeway, and gas is so dang expensive, and i still want to be able to drive 50 miles to the beach or something (i'm californian). ive never been to a strip, but want to be pushed back into my seat. when a girl gets in my car, i want them to be amazed of how hard my car can haul. should 355's be enough, or should i go more? any input will help thanks.(im also putting in eaton limited slip posi with the gears)
I went with 3.73's though they're in my garage til the end of July. I shopped alot and asked a lot of questions on this forum. I take long road trips and decided 3.73's were the best compromise. From what I've gathered, 3.73's only give you problems if you go blown or supercharged. Speaking of blown, the girls not going to care how hard your car can haul. Luck........

I have a 95 with 3.73's and love them, the link in dollarbills reply is exactly where you need to go, it will tell you exactly what rpm you will be turning at any mph you put in. I had 3.55's before I put in the 3.73's and they were o.k. but I like the 3.73's better, the 3.55's lost a little too much between shifts, with a power adder the 3.55's might work good though, by the way you will have to use a white 23 tooth speedo gear with the 3.73's and the speedo gears don't last long, I recently had my tranny out and changed the tailshaft gear to a 7 tooth like the older tranny's so I could use the right gear. Hope this is som help to you.

I have a set of 3.55 and a set of 3.73 gears sitting in the garage. I'm probably going to try to put them in myself. I've read up quite a bit on installations and it doesn't appear as if it's that hard if you take your time. Supposedly the Ford gears have excellent manufacturing tollerances and if you keep track of the shims I've been told you can usually just pull the old set out and put the new in without all the high tech measurement techniques you pay someone for.
I may pull it all apart and found out I'm totally screwed - don't know. I figure if I can put multiple motors together over the years and not screw up and have all of them still running, gears can't be that tough...
Just can't make up my mind which set to put in at this point.............
