I need to know if a torque converter from a 2004 Mach 1 will work in my 94 GT convertible. I guess I should have asked this question before I bought it, but it's too late. I bought a Midwest 3000 Stall 2.0 STR torque converter from a 2004 Mach 1 tonight, but I don't even know if it will fit my car now. I thought that since the 2004 Mach 1 has a 4R70W and my 94 GT has an AODE that the torque converter would interchange, but now I see that the the converter from the Mach 1 is actually 11.5" whereas the one from the '94 GT is only a 9.5" -- right???? Someone please help me out here. Thanks.
aode have a 13'' or so converter...the problem will be your converter has 4 studs holding it to the flex plate.....iv been told the newer ones have 6 or 8.....and the flex plates arnt interchangeable

Ok, I can use the torque converter from a 4r70w into an aode with no problem (they're virutally the same outside). The problem comes with bolting the torque converter to the flywheel (or flexplate). The Mach1 has a different flywheel.
So can I get a different flywheel (or flexplate) to make it work?
the 4r70w is used in the 4.6 stangs ....you have a 5.0...the flexplate bolt paterne is different on the crank.....i looked in to this once i dont think it can be done

The Mach1 converter would be a massive upgrade and worth the trouble of using. Here's how you do it. Buy a flexplate from a markVIII or 96-98 4.6 mustang. Have that flexplate counter balanced for you 50 gram balance motor. Install and smoke the tires off.

The torque converter I bought is a Midwest converter 3000 stall 2.0 STR - lockup converter - has anti ballooning plates, brazed fins, a 12 inch clutch and rated to 600 hp.
I bought it before I realized it wouldn't work with my flywheel.
So are you sure that the flexplate from a 96-98 GT will work? I don't mind buying a couple of parts to make it work if that's what I have to do. How much (roughly) will it cost to buy the flexplate from the Mark VIII or 96-98 GT cost and how much more to have it counterbalanced?

The flexplate are about $60 i suggest finding a ford dealer who can get you a good deal, pm me and I will get you a number to my guy. Counterbalancing it may be the tricky part, you may have an engine shop that can do it near you it doesn't hurt to call and ask. I know of a place in michigan that can do it i think they told me $75 and I would need to send them both flexplates.

THE AODE AND 4R70W interchangeable . However there are 2 different converters The 11" and the 12" both have different bolt patterns but the overall height is the same . I had one customer drill his flex plate to accomodate the 11" converter.
