My air pump went out on me recently and Pep Boys wanted $400 + tax to replace (that’s after wasting 3 hours trying to convince them that it wasn't my timing chain or water pump). Anyway, I told them what to do with their estimate and crawled over to a near by parts store, bought a belt for a 94 GT without A/C and bypassed the air pump (fortunately, the A/C and air pump pulleys are about the same size.)
Anyways, that got me into thinking about bypassing my A/C as well since I'm not using it at all. I was going to pop the belt off and run a string to try and measure the length of the belt I need, but then I figured there are probably hundreds of guys out there that have already done this. So I was wondering if anyone knows what length belt I need and what the best belt route is, a simple sketch would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I still have cats on, will not running the air pump damage them? I'm in Calli now so passing emissions is an issue.
BTW, I've already searched the forums and didn't find any info on this.

No, I pulled all the factory smog stuff off the car and pluged the back of the factory heads with a 5/8 #11 thread bolt. About belt routing wrap the crank, then your water pump then to power steering, then go straight across to your alternator. Maybe this will help you a little. If you get a belt, I am sure you can figure this out rather easy.
I spoke to a guy at autozone, 95 Cobra and 94 GT belts are different lengths, small difference 10mm but still, they couldn't ell me which pulleys were different sizes. I guess I'll have to measure it after all. Just wondering if I should measure with the tensioner depressed all the way in.

Been there, done that .... I have the shorter belt in my garage somewhere. Went back to the stock belt. If I can locate the short belt, I'll get back to you with the length. Purchased at Advance Auto Parts.

I got a 94 cobra... soooo what is the belt length for no air pump! Is it 89 inches? I been trying to find out what the belt length is for quite a while and I keep getting mixed results. Any body do this on a Sn95 5.0 car? Or more particulary a cobra 5.0 car?

I don’t think I like the "winter" set up in those pics.
Doesn't look right, having the belt hang over the idler pulley like that.
95blueoval, I believe you can get a belt for a 94 Cobra without A/C and use that one since A/C and Air Pump pulleys are about the same size, the tensioner should make up for any difference (if there is one).

About your question about the cats, I wouldn't delete your air pump if you still have your stock catalytic converters on the car. The undiluted exhaust can/will cause them to clog. Depending on your budget you can buy an aftermarket H-pipe with hi flow cats since you have to pass emissions.

ok i have a 95 gt. im running underdrive pullies. if i run underdrive pullies will that effect the lenth of the belt i need to delete my smog pump and my ac. also my fan only works when my ac is on(long story). if i bypass my ac can i still turn my ac on or will that mess it up some way. i have to turn my ac on to ingage my fan when my cars temp hits 225. i rarely use it. even less in the winter.

I cannot be sure about this as I do not have aftermarket U/P but, I have always HEARD that the difference it pulley sizes, from the smaller on the wataer pump, smaller on the crank, and larger on the alternator, that the belt size usually stays the same. Not a large enough size difference to change belts. But one of these guys with pulley will know for sure....

As long as you route the belt the same way after you install the correct U/P's for your ride, the stock belt is the right length and can be re-installed.
