I have a '94 GT and around 3 years ago I had an E-303 cam and GT-40 P heads on my car. I also had a custom chip to help it idle because it had such a hard time without it. Anyway, I blew up the engine and so I stuck a stock 5.0 in it and was gonna sell. I never sold the car and this past week I went to put the heads and cam back in. For whatever reason I cant get the darn thing to idle decent and this is with my custom chip. If I start the car up cold it idles fine. If I drive it and it warms up then shut it off, it wont start without me pressing the gas down all the way. After it starts, it wont idle on its own. It wants to stall and a stoplight, etc. If I drive the car a few blocks then its fine. I did a fuel pressure test and I get 35 psi under idle with vacuum line hooked to regulator. If I unhook the vacuum line it rises to 40. When I am driving the car when its warm and it wants to stall, usually if I press the clutch in, the tach falls like a rock and it stalls. I dont know if its a TPS or what. I do get a check engine light. I run codes but I dont get anything except a 511. I was told that the 511 is caused from the chip I have plugged in. Kinda odd... The car was running fine when I had the stock heads and cam in it. Also, I noticed today that the fan isnt turning itself on. If the car idles for a long enough time, the temp peaks out and fan doesnt run. However, if I run the A/C the fan turns on and when I run for codes on self-test the fan kicks on. Is there a relay that runs this?? Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions??? Thanks
What do you mean get a stock chip? This chip plugs into my stock computer. I was having the same trouble with the idle when I didnt have the chip plugged in. I plugged it in today thinkign that it would help but it hasnt
Have you tried re-setting the computer and setting the "base idle"... ???

I think you need to drop your fuel pressure too. Maybe when you shut it off after driving, fuel pressure is too high and it might be flooding the cylinders a little. Also, you just need to verify timing and TPS.
This isn't really a reply to your answer. But I thought someone would like to know. I bought a chip..**Will not name names** Then I had an auto shop do a tune-up.. After battling, i found out that the shop did not have one of the spark plug wires on correctly while starting up the car. They then realized this but, it was determind by FORD. That this killed the chip. For some reason with the chip left in the car. I had 3 injectors pushing twice the amount it should and 2 others pushing almost none at all. Sooo It could be the chip that is your problem..
Then with the diags in hand the chip company replaced it. However.. I no longer use any special chip.. I am waiting to find someone to program one just for my car....
94-95 cars view initital voltage at start up as idle, so if you are having the same problems at a non-floored start up, I wouldn't consider it the source.
Was the car ok before the head/cam swap?
I had a very similair problem, but with stock heads and stock cam. Wouldn't idle cleanly at all, stall at traffic lights, intermittently not-restart.
The 3rd shop I went to, which was Team Ford in Marietta, GA said it was the cam stator, but the Ford recommended repair replaces the Stator and the TFI module at the same time. Who knows what the true source was...
for everyone that doesn't know what the stator is, as I didn't, it's something to do with detecting the revolutions of the cam, and part of the Hall Effect device in the distributor.

i had a similar problem on my 95, it turned out be the TPS.
the stock unit was made of plastic which i believe had a tedency to go bad, some of the new units are metal. you might want to try and replace the TPS or at least see if you can borrow one and see if it makes a difference.
try the idle repair kit for a 92 to 93 mustang 5.0 from ford
when you put this in the bottom screw must be all of the way in.
I had the same problems as you ,and a guy named Travis from Speedfreakspeedshop.com told me about this. log on to his web site and get the number to call him. he'll tell you all about it. The idle repair kit is $20 from your local ford dealer, but you should call travis to get the part number. It was the best $20 i ever spent!!!! my car no longer stalls at the most embarassing times.
if you need help with this email me @ lilgtgirl@hotmail.com and i'll help you out
