Ok i just got my mustang and im having lots of problems and im new to ford and dont know much about them. Its a manual tranny and when i go from a complete stop and into 1st gear it kinda starts bumping (kind of a small hopping) i guess you can say and then it goes. A mechanic told me it was the engine mounts but i believe i would feel that constantly. My tranny leaks gear fluid, could that be the cause? It only happens in 1st gear. Any ideas.

Sounds like the clutch is getting oil from the engine rear main seal, or the clutch is going south. Where does the tranny appear to leak?

Engine side? most probably the crank rear main seal
Front? t5 tailshaft seal.
